We leave tomorrow and we just left the lobby bar. We had a ball. It was awesome.

This is a nice place don't get me wrong. There are a lot of things that they could improve on. I have stayed at many hotels and many busy hotels.
I will tell you that "something" is wrong with the pools here.

I will write more when I get home.

    Ellabear and 5aces,

I hope you didn't take my responses as bashing your direct observations. I TRULY respect your observations, and I know different things are more bothersome to some people than others. I agree large amounts of cups and food dishes around the pool are unappealing, and depending on the AI and the crowd, I know it can be a non-issue at some places and a big issue at others.

I love the pix and you do look like you had fun. I'm glad to see the hubby is a Yankees fan, despite their disarray this year. Ugh.

I live in a community where we pay enough you would think that there would be clear water all the time, and many times it's not. I've spoken with many a pool maintenance person, and like we've established, somewhat cloudy doesn't equal dirty.

I TOTALLY agree though (and you guys are there first hand, I'm not), that since the re-opening of the Cancun Palace, there were early reports that the filtration system doesn't seem to be processing as well as one might expect, and hopefully if you guys mention your concerns upon check out, they may continue to tweak the issue.

I guess for a while, when it was slower at the resort, they thought they had it fixed, as reports were the pool was once again spectacular and clear and maybe now that the resort is more full, sand is getting into the pool that isn't being well filtered and it's an issue again. Also the sand near the pool, being stirred up by heavy usage probably makes the water look more cloudy than it ordinarily would be and puts an additional strain on things. Most of the other resorts don't have sand adjacent to their pools. This might have been a mistake on the CP's part, as it may be causing the pool to appear more cloudy as well.

I think upon initial reports (and I know they were made in between you all trying to enjoy your vacations, which was MUCH appreciated), many folks contemplated changing resorts, as it was hard to clarify the situation. I'm glad that you guys graciously took the time to come back and expand on your earlier comments and stating that although you would have =preferred= (as we all assuredly would) a crystal clear pool with tighter eating/drinking rules enforced, it was not soooooooo bad that you wouldn't step foot in it or that one should change resorts due to the issue. I think most people got the idea initially they would be swimming in raw sewage and backwash. LOL

5aces, where do you hail from and where do you usually stay in Cancun? Where do you recommend where the food is so markedly better other than the Moon? How do you feel about the Royal Cancun? Have you stayed there yet? I think much of this is a matter of preference and lifestyle, as I've heard food is good and bad all over the place. All I know is the LeMeridien is the place for foodies, albeit it's not an all inclusive and that explains a lot of it. We almost went there, but we didn't want to dress up for dinner. Although quieter than I think we wanted for this trip, the level of quality in that resort would have been worth it. I'm glad to hear the Sun Palace gets great reviews.

I'll look for the rest of ya when we drop by the CP for a visit! Have fun everybody and enjoy. I look forward to all your candid reviews when you return, positive and negative included, and I know, since several people have mentioned it, it's a concern, but not enough to change resorts over, unless you really feel compelled to have to swim in "crystal waters"...or if you are a beach person over a pool person.

Best to you all. Thanks to you guys graciously interrupting your vacations to drop reviews and live updates. Bon voyage!

I am home and I am soooo tired. I did not get in until after 12:30 last night. Had a great week!!!!! The weather was the best all week. Friday was very cloudy. No Sun.

I still have to get my pics uploaded so that will be coming soon.

I did like the resort. There were just some issues that were not to my liking. I am sure that other folks did not mind. I do know that some people did mind a lot more than me because I heard them complaining.
You can not beat the service at the hotel!! They were very good to our group. Except the Japanese place. That was the worst service EVER!!! I really do know what the problem was but it was bad. They took our soup order then they never brought it. We sat there without drinks for about 25 minutes. Finally my daughter went to the bar and got us a coke.
I am a tipper and I tip for everything. I left nothing on the table.
The Italian was our favorite!!! My daughter wanted to go there every night.
If you want Shrimp Alfredo, they will make it. It is not on the menu but they made it for my daughter twice!!!

Yes water does drip on you depending where you are sitting or standing.
It happens a lot while standing in the buffett line and at certain tables throughout the place. They usually keep those table empty. The tile work in the CP is HORRIBLE. If you go, just look at the tile work arond the elevators. You will not believe your eyes. Big corner pieces broke off and the grout work was very bad. Depending on what floor you are on, the grout was filled in with black silicone. I have pics.

The beach was very nice and life guard did a great job watching people.
The bartenders on the right side (furthest from D.J.) of the pool were
    better than the left.
Everytime we ordered room service, we got a call to make sure that we had gotten our food and that it was timely. That was nice.
    My mom loved her massage.

The fire show is AWESOME. Make sure that you are around for that. People starting looking for good seats about 20 minutes prior to the show.
"Anything Can Happen" was also very fun. The resort was FULL so there were a lot of players.
The crowd at the CP was very mixed. Older folks, high school kids, and families with babies. Eveyone was VERY well behaved so a good time could be had by all.

On two seperate days we went to the jucuzzis upstairs and two of them had a brownish reddish film that was gathering in the middle of the jacuzzis. The one by the steak house did not have this problem. It looked really gross. On Thursday they had the middle one blocked off with yellow tape so something was clearly wrong.
They could do a better job cleaning up around the pool area. Lots of empty cups and stuff laying around.

The gym was very nice. The mexican show is good. The gift shops are very reasonable!!

Our maid was nothing special at all. Sometimes our floor was not swept and that bugs me. I left her 3.00 dollars everyday.

I have to go but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
    EB
sorry for the typos - I was in a hurry
    Pictures are coming.

Well, Today is Saturday. We got up early and were very pleased that they cleaned up the pool really well. It was clean throughout the day.

I gotta tell you this though - not trying to scare anybody. I'm sure not many of them around, esp. being tourist. My daughter (6 yr old) and I were in the restroom by the beach. We were in the same stall. She looked up at me and said "there is a guy up there". So I opened the toilet door and looked over next stall. A GUY walked out. I followed him out and tried to ask him what the heck he was doing in the women's. He held his tummy and just walked toward the beach, not looking at back at me. I was standing by the stairs to the beach by this time and yelled out that this guy was in the women's. Bunch of guys sitting around the beach didn't do really react. Actually, they were kinda smiling. There were a couple of Mexican guys (workers) around the restroom but nobody said anything, either. I asked them if they saw him came in the women's. They actually said yes. I guessed the guy appeared or tried to appear as if he made a mistake because of stomach upset, so nobody suspected anything. I walked over to the towel guy and told him. He shrugged his shoulder and said "it 's probably a mistake". As I was trying to explained, two women by the pool overheard and came over and said they also caught him TWICE. Finally, the towel guy said he would report it. My daughter was so upset after understanding more of the situation. Anyways, since then, my daughter would make me check the stalls before we enter any toilet. Thinking back, I should have run up and beaten the hell out of him.

We have one day left here. We like the room very much. We are right in the middle of the middle building on the 10th floor, so the view is spectacular.

We kind get tired of the food here, so we are going to the Moon for the day and check it out.

We ate at the Italian twice and loved it. My older daughter ordered Linguini and shrimp in Alfredo sauce, and the other daughter ordered Linguini and mussells in Alfredo sauce. They weren't on the menu, but you can ask for different stuff as long as it is not so hard. We love the lamb chops alot. The veal was chewy. The seafood scampi is good too.

I particularly like the cafe flambe. They have this guy preparing this at the lobby bar everyday from 4-6pm everyday, and then 6-9pm in the Italian restaurant. I had this everyday. I like mine with tequila instead of Kalua.

Japanese restaurant - we dont think the food is good at all. Service is not good either. But the bartender there is great. If you asked,he 'll get you all the Don Julio you want.

We didn't do any evening show, so we cant comment on that

    Ok enough for now.

    CRUELLA1114,

Thanks for the update. The hotel must be very crowded for the restaurants and maid service to be so slow. We've always gone to CP in April-May before summer vacationers.

Glad to hear that you are still enjoying that beautiful place! Was there a fireworks show on the beach last night (4th)? Is the pool still okay?

    Free,

Are you packed and ready for the spin classes; July 11th right???
