Well I'm booked at the CP the 6th - 10th. We wanted a more lively resort that the Sun Palace even though we are traveling as a couple, so for the better food, more choices and livelier scene we picked the CP. (We personally are fans of sleek modern decor, although I know it's not for everyone, and other fans of that style hotel say the rooms are lovely, but if you like lush old world, you're NOT going to be happy). This pool sitch may be the impetus to change over to the Sun Palace and just visit the Cancun Palace for dinner. Or maybe we'll just high tail it to the Sun for pool/beach during the day. Gotta call the hubby, as everyone seems quite up in arms about this...and now I don't know what to do. Other than that, I hear the place is lovely from anyone else who has just been and they had a GREAT time with great food. A few people emailed me their private pix, and it looks great. The pool IS a huge deal though, so I have to sort this out today. ANy further input is appreciated.
Okay, even though I wanted the higher energy of the CP, more food choices and the beach bar and grill, this is our only chance for a couples only get away in at least the next 6 to 8 months. I can't take the chance of a grody pool or playing reserve the chair because the resort is crowded now that the whole East coast is finally out of school. To that end, I called Expedia and rebooked for the Sun Palace. We'll definitely go up to the CP one day to check it out, but I need to relax for this short hop, not worry if the pool will or won't be clean. Any updates would be appreciated. I hope I don't regret our decision. The Sun Palace seems a little sleepy for our tastes, but does get amazing reviews.
that could be the issue. Lots of people. But I just don't like it when it starts to turn a cloudy color. And like I said, they let people bring food to the pool chairs. I have some pictures. What you see might not be a big deal to you. This is a fun place. If that is what you are looking for.
Yeah, we wanted to have a lively, fun place, rather than quiet. I am so nervous about the pool I rebooked already after reading your comments and that of the other person down there now. I also don't want to have to fight for chairs, even though we are early risers. I can always hop over there via bus from the Sun Palace. How is the bar there and the band at night? Do people hang out and dance, etc. until fairly late? How is the beach there? Water swimable? I guess I should have gotten a definitive before changing, but I've rebooked and can't rebook back. I'd love to see the pix anyway, if you have them and wouldn't mind. To avoid spam bots, it's: altrockdj AT yahoo.com Thanks so much!
The pool is fine until around 3 or 4 pm. We have been Palace members since 1996. The new Cancun Palace is much improved and they are working out the kinks very well. WE LOVE IT! The Sun Palace is very quiet and my opinion when we visited in april was it was not that great. Again MHO> It is farther away from the fun things in the HZ. The pool is definately not GROSS---just people need to be more respecful of dropping their drinks, food, and suntan oil. We are in our 40's and like the atmosphere of the CP and never stay at any other Palace's even though we are members.
thanks ok - i guess we will stick with CP ... I was there back in 2003 and we really did love it, plus we want FUN!!! I am a stay at home mom, so I need some adult fun time. Thanks for all the feedback from everyone!
Yeah, I'm REALLY bummed I rebooked. I think the SUN will be way too sleepy and boring for us too, that's why we didn't book there to begin with... I'm a stay at home mom too, so this was my 5 days of fun away from the kids to relax and cut loose a bit. I think we will probably go up to the CP on Saturday, the 7th and hang, do the Japanese restaurant and then do the lobby band/bar thing, maybe another day too. I have a pool and I want to clarify that cloudy water doesn't equal GROSS or unsanitary. I think a lot of these comments come from people who are used to tiny back yard pools, which are low usage or don't go to high traffic resorts much. I know they are well intended, and mean no slam on someone giving their personal observations. Cloudy water means chlorine has been adjusted to handle a higher volume of people. Sand is in the water because with the new set up, they have the sand right adjacent to the pool and heavy traffic and wind will transfer sand. I guess comments on these boards made a lot of people very nervous, and there was a lot of talk about rebooking, when really, it's more pool look preference (we all prefer a crystal clear pool) than a pool floating with gross stuff and totally unsanitary. Unless there is all manner of food floating in the water with cigarette butts, I doubt there really is any issue. I'm kind of bummed I didn't wait for more clarification. I can't change back now, but I guess I won't be vying for chairs and umbrellas either, which is good. I hope I'll see some of you guys when we drop by! I look like my picture! On a final note, I don't think one can go wrong with the Palace resorts. They seem to have high standards across the board. Everyone have a fabulous vacation! Retromaven
Well we will be there (CP) from the 6-11 (July) so I will look for you when you come to check it out! To bad you changed hotels ... but i am sure you will still have fun... Susan
To clarify my pool comments, I thought it was a little cloudy but acceptable. It did not bother me to swim in it. The beach was awesome. Any sand in the pool sinks to the bottom. Clear water is a combination of proper chemicals and good filtration. The chemicals kill the bad things and the filter removes the particles. A pool can be in good sanitary condition and still be cloudy due to improper filtration. That is what I believe is happening. The filtration system is not moving enough water through it to keep up with the use. If anybody is concerned while there, they should ask to see the chlorine level when tested. Takes less than a minute. Here is a picture I took in April. Can anyone there compare to it now. http://mysite.verizon.net/snobeeler/cancun07/img_2055.html
Well I dont know any techicality of the pool business, but it sure looks cloudy, esp. from the 10th floor. We still swim in it and no health problem so far (cross our finger). Yesterday, there was a little girl about 9 years old walking around collecting plastic cups around the pool, and she had a long stack of cups (3 feet long). She said she found them all around the pool (in & out). The beach is nice and definetely swimmable. All the food, the drinks, the ice, the drinking water are fine. The Italian restaurant is great. We ate there 2 days in a row. I know a few people switched to Moon Palace due to food choices, and they reported back that it it much better at the Moon. If you want big crowd, noice, and busy place, this is the place for you. We prefer a more quiet place. We have been busy doing tours (jungle tour, Cozumel diving, Tulum, Isla Mujeres), so we are using the pool that much. So it is ok. By the time we come back late afternoon, we like to hit the beach, dinner, then bed. Bottom line - last time at CP for us. I mean, there is so many other places to see and experience. We 've been all over the world, we wouldn't settle here. I am not being negative - but CP didn't pass our rating. [/list]
