Ok, we are on our 2nd day here. It is quite busy. People are everywhere, very crowded. One of the free tours offered by the CP, Paradise Snorkeling, is all booked up until next Tuesday, and we will be leaving Monday. Bummer. We stayed at the hotel all day today. I will try to go through each item here:
Teen club - is not open yet, Kiddie club is good for 10 and younger.

Pool - very dirty by mid day. ElleBear is right about the food at the poolside tables. If you want chair & umbrellas by the pool, gotta go down by 7:30am, to reserve your own. They are gone fast.

Buffet food - alright. lines start at 8:30 for grilled foods

Japanese restaurant - have to reserve in the morning for the Teppan grill. They have a table setup to take your reservation by the lobby bar for that. The restaurant is nice. Food is good, not the greatest.
There is always a wait at other restaurants. Their nightly entertaiment starts at 8pm, so the restaurants seems less busy at that time. After 9pm, when they get out of the theatre, then they get busy again.

Weather has been great for 2 days we been here. Hot & humid as expected, but not too bad. No rain at all today. The beach were kinda windy, waves are very strong and high.

We didn't get a room with a view, "because we checked in late" (5pm), so they gave us a room on the 4th floor facing the entrance, near the elevator. I couldn't sleep for 2 nights (hence staying up typing this). We tried to complain but they said they were full. Though, they just left a note in the door few minutes ago, saying they will change our room tomorrow.

Spa - seems pretty busy as well. I dont' know about booking before you leave; but somebody I know here can book a day ahead. I plan to book my in couple of days.

CRUELLA - We were also picked up by Chaza Travel. Remember, after picked up your luggage, go directly outside and look for them with a hand held sign says Palace Resorts. They wear green pants and beige shirts with Chaza logo. Do not stop and talk the other people right after luggage area. They are "sharks". I met somebody got stopped by them and held them up for half an hour before they could get outside for their pickup. Remember to book your Paradise snorkeling tour (if free with your package) as soon as you get in. As I said before, they were all booked up 7 days ahead for us.

Gotta go. Have to try to get some sleep.

    Questions

First of all my husband and i changed our stay in cancun from July 11-17 at RIU Palace Las Americas to July 6-11 at Cancun Palace so that we could stay with the 10 other people we know that are going. But I read a few bad reviews on cancun palace now and I am a little worried? Is the pool really that dirty? Rooms really that bad?
Also one other question we all had - is the mini bar and liquor in the room all part of the all inclusive or is that extra?

    5aces & Ellabear,

Thanks for the live reports from CP. It's interesting to hear how things are progressing now that the hotel has been open for a while.

When we were there April-May, the pool was great. Just wondering if comments to the front desk management would improve the pool condition???

We also had a lagoon view for the first few days of our stay, and then were moved to an ocean view. It was MUCH quieter.

Has there been any mention of when the pool area may have the palm trees planted that are shown in the Hotel's artist photos? We really missed the lush tropical look that the old CP pool area had.

Enjoy the remainder of your vacation, and keep the reports coming. It's a great getaway break for us at work! :)

I do not like the starkness of the hotel at all. But that is me. I also like the lush look. The pool is dirty. The hotel was rushed. that is all i have time for right now.

    Really worried

I am getting really scared too... i don't want to swim around in filth all day ... and I am much more a pool person then a beach person. I just emailed Cancun Palace in regards to the situation. We'll see if I get a response.

    Re: Questions

I was there in April. The minibar in the room is free. I only drank a few beers out of it because you can get a drink almost anywhere on the property. We thought the room was great. As far as the pool goes, the problem is with the filtration system. I looked it over as best I could being a guest. There is not enough water flow thru it. There was very little flow at the intakes and returns. Not sure why without getting access to it. I am picky about pool water and it was acceptable to me in April, not sure if it worse now.

I am with Free on this one. How bad is it? I know the resort is much busier now that school's out in the US. So you think the filtration system can't handle the number of bodies?
Only 13 days before we leave...should we switch?
