Back yesterday As soon as I figure out the picture posting stuff, I'll put mine up. It was a great trip. CP still has some bugs to work out though. Denise - Teen's Club. First, I got a blank stare. Second, I got an "I don't know" and finally as we waiting for our ride to the airport, I was told that it is not a physical place but rather specialized activities for teens during high season, i.e. this summer. The guy didn't give me a date, just summer. And he said the activities staff was in charge of putting it together. Unfortunately, they weren't at work yet when we had to leave. The kids club was beautiful, but typically, no one was using it. It's too far from the parents to let the kids go alone and the parents don't want to hang out there. Too bad. Finally, despite a truly nice resort and great weather (calm ocean 4 of 7 days), nobody here or on TA said a word about the construction next door. I got pics of that too. Just be sure you are NOT put on the north side of the hotel. LeMeridien, I was told, owned the property and was building on it. This is the vacant land that used to have the old track on it. I thought that was the public Beach? Gonna be a long summer. More later. Adios (I miss it already)
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/lisaten98/album?.dir=6fdfre2 ok not sure this will work but photobucket takes too much work. excuse the personal stuff. the pics at the end are the "never gonna be ready this summer" Beach Palace and the construction next to CP. Behind opic #22 you can see the construction "mountain". the others are probably redundant but every month they've added something new. and p.s. chaza was stationed INSIDE the airport main terminal for pick up. i blew the reps off at first but then i saw the palace logo.
Lisa-Luv!!! Welcome home... Stinks, doesn't it.. How come I didn't know you had a presidential suite?? Love the pictures. I saw the mounds of dirt next door, but didn't think anything of it. There was no construction going on at all while I was there. Just a mound of dirt, and you had to specifically look over there to see it. There was no machinery present during our stay. I woulda told ya, I swear! Thanks for trying to find out about the teen's club.. it was a big selling point during our upgrade.. I'll have to see what becomes of it. I was not impressed with the activity staff while I was there. They were just getting their feet wet, in my opinion. So, are you going to do an official trip report?? I want the blow by blow of each MINUTE!!
Yeah ME TOO!!! Give us the play by play. Those pictures are very nice and it worked great. Nice pictures of things I have not seen before. EB
Long Review 5/20-5/27/07 http://s180.photobucket.com/albums/x41/lisaten98/?start=all These are all the pics but they are in reverse order and some are duplicates from yahoo posted early. Sorry this is so long, but... We arrived at 11:30am and didn't get a room until 3. That was not cool. But they put us in the presidential suite!! OMG it was gorgeous. Overlooked the Marriott pool. Hubby cracked open a beer and decided we would have every meal in that dining room. HaHa. Then the luggage didn't arrive. We called and waited. 2nd beer and the phone IN THE BATHROOM rings. It was the clerk breaking the news that we were in the wrong room!!! So much for living high and mighty. My husband spent the rest of the week glancing up at that double lounge waiting to see if someone got "our room." heehee. Our real room was nothing great but I didn't want to waste any more time or energy on it. We are only there to sleep anyway. A new room might have been worse. And yes, the AC does drip on your head by the vanity. They need to do something to correct their condensation problems. Like getting rid of metal diverters or something. 2nd day we did the update to get it out of the way. We didn't need the tour of the Presidential Suite though. Ha!. Did you know they are ready to open a 60-room boutique hotel on Isla? and they officially closed Maeva for renovation. For attending, we got $100 spa, 100 pro shop, 100 palace cash, a bottle of Kalua and a cap. We opted not to do any tours because we were playing golf at Moon two days but would have chosen Catamaran/Snorkel. Back to airport stuff - Chaza is now inside the airport to greet you and I saw a billboard that USA3000 was flying into the new terminal. We were on Continental so it was in the old terminal as was Delta and USAir. The entertainment (shows) was better than before and the new theater was great for it . Except when it rains. It's just too far from the hotel just like the kids club. There was mini-karoke in the lobby bar one night where the little kids were the singers. Itsy Bitsy Spider was the best song of the evening. Seriously. Listening to a 7 year old sing "I will survive" was not cool. I forgot my camera in the lobby bar that night but didn't realize it til the next morning when we went to play golf. The bar was not open yet so I called CP from the golf course and asked them to look for it. When we returned, nada. They claimed to have looked and asked everyone. I went to the bar. The bartender had it. The PR people behind the desk are kinda like the folks in Miami. Are they really in the same hotel with me? The ocean was calm the first four days so the beach had a chance to recover. It was wider than I had seen in previous pics. Then it kicked up and umbrellas were not allowed on the beach. This was the day we returned from golf so by then all the pool umbrellas were taken. I asked for one and they dragged one out of storage. They really are very accommodating. The 5th day a group of about 100 high school graduates arrived. They were loud and obnoxious and even with quite a few parents with them, they were out of control. They took over the lobby bar, naturally. I won't say which state they were from but they obviously don't get out a lot. I felt so sorry for the people at the steak restaurant listening to their cat calls from room to room out on the terrace. I guess it's one reason we never got around to eating at that restaurant. The staff went through a great production every single night putting out dinnerwear and lighting the grill, etc. Speaking of food, it was identical to the menus at Playacar Palace last fall and very good. They have finally learned to cook beef medium rare so there's no more shoe leather at Palace!! We did them all except the Steak and each was really very good. Even the buffet cooked steak and fish to order like they do the omelets in the morning. The fifth night the teenagers were totally shut out by the entertainment staff. They had been so awful the night before, I'm sure guests complained. Others finally got to participate in the games. One game was a competition for collecting the most number of men's pants/shorts. Another was collecting the most bras. It ws great fun. The only problem I had with it was the number of little kids in the bar while that was going on. Like i said before - the kids hang with the parents and the parents don't care if they're in a bar. It sorta dampens the fun. My dear husband, who still thinks Cancun is the same as 15 years ago, decided one night we needed to go clubbing. Nevermind we're usually in bed by 10. The club du-jour that night happend to be The City. It was just downright stupid. No other word could possiblly describe it. Coco Bongo is a theme. This is just paying 45pp to watch other people dance. I heard a new Fergie song once but otherwise the music was vintage Madonna and Cher. Need I say more? next time, we're going to My Place. I don't care what he says! As for the construction, i suppose it is relatively new. I asked about it and was told it was LeMeridien building on the site. This used to be an old track and field so I naturally thought it was publicly owned property. I know it is a public beach there. We walked down the corridor to get the pics the day it rained. You could hear the construction from the beach so I know it has to be loud from those rooms. Like i said, don't stay north. Those rooms are the low numbers, i.e. 112, 210, 308 etc. are the end rooms. The opposite side of the hotel are the higher numbers. Center of the hotel are the in ?40-?60 range. Also someone else said it, even numbers are ocean view, odd numbers are lagoon. The towel art is gone. But I guess the turn down service took it's place. There are green light/red light switches outside each room to let your maid know if you want service or not. that is a good idea. They missed us two nights but who cares. And the jacuzzi did not have brown water in it. I think that's competition setting booby traps. In sum, it was great. CP is indeed the "high energy" hotel it was originally touted as. Mostly because Beach Palace is not open yet and Sun is adults. So it's loud and active. If you don't want that, don't go there. Simple enough. There is nothing to compare with that first sight - when you pass Sun Palace and get to that public beach area - of the blue ocean. I get a lump in my throat every time. It's why I keep going back. And so what if the toilet paper holder falls off into your hand or the ceiling leaks. All the minor imperfections disappear after the 2nd day. It's a magical place. My hope is that everyone gets to feel that way. Hasta luego. October is just around the corner... Lisa P.S. Internet is $2.50 for 15 minutes. You purchase the time at the front desk and charge it to your room. The room safe is the new kind where you enter your own pin number to activate it. No more carrying around a safe key. And it didn't look big enough to hold a laptop.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. Glad you had a good time even though you got booted out of the Presidential Suite. BUMMER. EB
lisaten, Thank you so much for all your info. The pictures are great. My daughter also thanks you for the picture of the treadmills. Do you know if they started the spin classes yet?
Hi, We just got back on 5/26 and we loved the Cancun Palace!! There were 8 of us total traveling total 4 adults and 4 children ages 7,4,4,and 2 and had rooms on the 11th floor. The room was nice and the view was great. We just wished the balcony was just a little bigger but it worked fine. The service was excellent. Anything we asked for or needed was taken care in 5 minutes or less. One quick tip is there is a sensor on the sliding glass doors to the balcony and if those doors are open the air conditioning does not work. We called down to the front desk and in about 2 minutes someone was up there to look at it and we felt very silly when it did not work. Restaurants- We ate at all of them and our favorite was Frida's. We ate there 3 of the 7 nights. The food was excellent!! The Asian restaurant had a hibachi menu which was cooked in front of you and a Thai/Chinese menu which was sit down. We thought they were both good. The steak and Italian restaurants were fine not bad not good just ok. The buffet was excellent for both lunch and breakfast. There is a poolside grill that does burgers, hot dogs, chips and salsa. At the beach bar and grill there is a sandwich menu with a chicken sandwich, a Reuben, hot dogs, burgers, a couple of other things I forget and they also serve chips and salsa. The chips are all freshly made from tortillas and were my favorite thing! The food at the beach grill was excellent. Entertainment- Every night at dinner there is a entertainment team member that promotes the shows by going around to each table to tell you where and what the show for the night is. We went to 3 shows. The kids really liked the magic show and enjoyed the animals that they had. There were a couple of times my niece covered her eyes she was afraid they were cutting the woman in half. The adults liked the circus more than the kids. They got bored after a while. Both the circus and the magic show were in the outside theater. We also took them to the "Anything Goes" show in the lobby bar. (Yes, I was one of those parents that had there kids in a bar) We were a little thrown off by the title and asked the entertainment memeber if it was a kids friendly show and his response was this is a family resort and everything is for families at the resort. The kids all loved it!! They divided the lobby bar into 2 teams and the captain had to collect items from his side and the team that came up with the most got the point. They collected one item at a time from ID's, purses, shoes, belts and yes shorts/pants, and bras. Anyone that has ever been on a Carnival cruise has probably seen this done before. It was funny and our families enjoyed it. Kids Club- My sons are 2 and 4. We sent my oldest son along with his cousins 7 and 4 went for about 2 hours and did not want to go back. The have a pool with slides which was very cute but would have been better for my 2 year old. Since he was not old enough we did not even let him see it because would not have been able to get him out. The had a trampoline which the kids enjoyed. There were also 5 or 6 video game stations but since all of the kids were still a little young they didn't play them. Trips- One day we went to wet and wild the water park. We took the bus and spent about 3 hours there. The park was not too big and not too busy which was great. We did not eat there even though we were given coupons to eat for free. We had lunch back at the hotel. We did also take a trip into town to look around at market 21. It is like any other place they hound you to death and you can get them down on the prices. Nothing really to interesting. We all really enjoyed this resort and are already talking about going back to the Cancun Palace or another Palace resort.
hi free i didn't post the pics of the spin bikes cause someone else had. i was standing upstairs with the bikes when I shot the treadmills. They had quite a few bowflex machines, too. but yes, there are spin classes - let me pull out my schedule - 7am Mon Wed and Fri. is on the main activity schedule. But i went into the gym and saw another schedule that had it at 7, 9 and 10am. I suppose it depends on who shows up. There was a full time employee manning the facility. They also had a steam room and sauna, lockers and shower. It's in a separate building right next to the theater and the tennis courts. and "can't wait" - sorry for the unintentional insult. I think Palace needs to have at least two evening oriented locations in the main hotel. I for one would have chosen the children's area over the teenagers in the bar any day. I hope they improve on that in the future for all our sakes.
