We only brought cash for tips and the bus, the rest we put on credit/debit cards. I find travelers checks a pain in the butt. That's a personal preference.

I really can't comment on the police in Mexico. I've seen them around, but never seen or had any interaction with them. I've heard the stories too. Rule of thumb is that if you look for trouble, you'll find it - otherwise all is well.

I can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back.

    Jenna,

When we tipped, it was per meal. That worked best for us since we had different waiters during our week at CP April 25 - May 2.

I think Denise's recommendation on $$$ is good. We did not spend as much this time, but we didn't do as much away from the hotel either.

Thought that I would mention this on the rooms:
Our first few days we stayed in 951 -- lagoon view; then we were able to move to 1252 --ocean view. Both were very nice. We thought the lagoon side was a lot noiser. Room #s ending in a odd # seem to be lagoon and in a even # ocean. You may not have a preference. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony -- each side had a great view.

Have a super fun time -- wish we were going back tomorrow!

I'm so jealous that you still have your trip to come!!! Hope you have a good time!

When I was at the airport to come home, we were having a drink and a man from New York said that if you rent a car to be very careful. He said that the Mexican police know the cars are rentals and you are tourist and will pull you over just to get cash out of you. He said a friend of his was stopped 6 times while driving and was really not doing anything to get a ticket. Had to pay them cash to get out of each one.

Keep in mind, they only make $5.00 a day so they LOVE to make extra cash when they can. They will take jewelry as payment too, I've heard.

Just be careful and have a blast!!!! Eat at the Japanese restaurant, you won't be disappointed, IF you like hibachi food.

My husband and I get $200.00 in one dollar bills to take for tips. We came home with most of them. We have them for our meals, and to occasionally tip the waiters at the pool too. We took about $400.00 total with us and didn't leave the resort and came home with most of our cash. You are young and will want to go to clubs I'm sure so you may not go home with much but $400.00 is a good amount.

HAVE A BLAST AND LET US HEAR HOW YOU LIKE IT!!!!

Thanks so much Jan for the pictures of the gym. I see those spin bikes up there. My daughter wants to know if there are treadmills?[

Sheri, I know how you feel about your vacation being over. That is when it is time to start planning another one.

Jenna, I also heard the same thing last year on the plane comming home from someone. They know the rental cars, they stop you and say you have to come to the station or they try to get cash.

Two months one day from tommorw I will be there in Cancun. But who is counting!!!!!!!!!
