Now I'm really getting excited to get there! This will be a very long 2 weeks and 2 days.... but we will be there for 11 nights! 1st thing.... Sue wants to know if it's true about the Japanese restaurant. So far, we have heard nothing but GOOD things about it. Then the usual things that all of want to know; - Pool filtration - Your room, A/C problems etc.. - You are a member, as are we. Did you do the sales tour? Any hassels? Assumiming you said "NO", did you get Palace certificates etc.? Is it worth the time to go through it? - Back to the food... I've read the Italian restaurant is not so good. This is funny, because my boss (on my membership) stayed at Moon Palace, and the line to get in their Italian restaurant was intimidating. He flew back home and sat next to a chef who said it was the best he has had... (aside from his cooking). !!! For those reading this; Sue and I will be going on the Isla Mujeres tour & swim with the Dolphins. The Sail/Snorkel tour ( and pay the extra $$$ for horseback riding). The Tulum tour. I have also looked up the bus schedule to Play Del Carmen. Will probably spend a day there and visit the Playacar Palace. It's close to town and the beaches at Playa Del Carmen are great! I'm forced to say this!!!! Ahemmmmmm......... Anyone (lady's) intersted in shopping (haggeling) in downtown Cancun, we are planning a trip..... The same day we plan to make Lorrito Joes go bankrupt that evening!!! Probably the 9th or 10th of May. Anyway... Ms. Jennie.... If you read this, and want to join us for any of the activities... let us know... Oh yes.... In order to find you.... I'm the guy yelling "Does anyone know where "FISHKILL is"? Dave 'n Sue
I am surprised the fountains are working. They did not work the whole time we were there and I did not see anybody working on them. Both pool bars were open the whole week we were there. As far as the room issues, this is what I observed. 1st, we did not have any problems with the toilet. The A-C worked very good. Only complaint there is that when it switches on and off you can hear some dampers moving, no big deal. The A-C units are in the ceiling and you can hear a water drip noise while it is running. This is normal, although wall mount units drain outside so you dont hear the drip. There is a slot in the wall where you enter the room where you put a card in to turn on power in the room. They like you to remove the card when not in the room for conservation. The shower, this problem was reported by everyone i spoke with. The temperature is hard to control. This is my take on it. They have "low flow" shower heads on for conservation. The hot water is backing up into the cold water line while showering and then the water gets very hot. I found that running the cold water in the shower untill the water is cool and then very slowly turning the hot on untill the desired temp is achieved works. I would end up with the cold on all the way and the hot open 1/4 turn at most. Wait at least 30 seconds after each minor adjustment of the hot water before making another adjustment. Once you get the hang of it it is easy. Others I told about this said it worked for them also. Remember, I was on the 4th floor so things may be slightly different on other floors.
Oh, forgot to talk about the important stuff, THE FOOD. We found the Japaneese was the best. Tempura shrimp! I loved it. Sushi was good also. Order all you want. You can sit at your own table and order what you want or sit around the grill with 10 people and order what you want. Those chef's are very talanted. The Italian was the next best. When you order wine you get the whole bottle. The red was good. "The steak" restaurant (3rd floor outside) was next. I ordered Surf/Turf, the surf was shrimp and turf was fitet mignon. My wife was not totally thrilled with the serloin cut. My favorite food is Mexican, and I was not real impressed with that. The meat on the tacos was not the best, so we did not go back. Breakfast buffet's were very good. Lunch and snacks at the pool bars and 3rd floor "The Steak" were very good. There was a couple hot snacks that were very good every night in the room with the public computers (down the hall past the jewerly store and then past the public phones). Snacks are on the right when you walk in the room. Most would never see them, but I do not miss food in a room.
How did you like the entertainment of the hotel? I am curious about the daytime entertainment staff and the evening entertainment. :?: Thanks for all the info.
We enjoyed the entertainment. Something different each nite. There is a schedule so you know ahead of time whats up. It started each night around 8 and lasted anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. Lots of laughs were had. We would go to dinner around 6 (no lines) and after dinner freshen up or hop on the computer for a little, then head to the Bar/Club whatever they call it. It is the center round building in back. You can get there by going straight after walking off the elevators or directly from the pool area. After the family oriantated shows, most family's would leave and the band would set up. The drinkers would start filtering in, I would stay as I drink also, and then the band would play. They play a lot of classics pretty good. I was kinda growing tired of them after 2 days, but they started playing more lively songs on the weekend so I say they got better. You can sit inside for air conditioning or outsde and you feel like your still apart of the action because the room is all window. The service was very good. Never waited for a drink in or out. We ventured to Carlos & Charlies one night and that was way different if you know what I mean. If you have a lot of energy after dinner, spend $.65 and take the bus there. 5 minute ride.
the center round building in the back is a bar club? do you mean that new amptheater thing they are building?? oh and nuffadiss.. we are arriving the 11th ( friday) so you can start screaming for fishkill around 5 pm on friday =) hahaha
No, the amptheater is out front next to the tennis courts. Go here to see pictures of where they are. http://mysite.verizon.net/snobeeler/ In image img_2223 the main bar and entertainment is right below that round pool. I heard the entertainment will eventually be in the amptheater. In image img_2137 the amptheater is just to the right of the 4 people in the background. While you are looking at that picture, the Japaneese restaurant is the dark windows to the right of the white van. The business center (public computers and pay phones) is behind the Palm trees on the left side of the picture. Second floor.
does CP offer a currency change? will i be able to turn some USD into pesos?? my travel agen said they had a place inside the hotel for me to do so, But i wanted to hear it straight from the mouth of someone who is there/been there presently.
Yes, you can exchange US for Pesos at the front desk. You do it at the counter to the left of the spot where you check in. One of the front desk staff does it for you. We also found a few ATM machines that were easy to get Pesos out of at shopping areas toward Cancun. The bus is 6.5 pesos each for a ride as far as you want to go toward Cancun. BTW, we found the t-shirt store and jewelry store in CP was very reasonable compared to everywhere else we went. 4t-shirts for $20 us. The t-shirts everywhere ran 1 size smaller than back home. So if you want a medium, get a large etc.
We arrived in Cancun today at 1:30pm; and are at the Cancun Palace. It has been a very long day -- we just now got into a room (my husband & me). They showed our reservation starting tomorrow, but had our son and his wife's starting today. I booked the entire trip for all 4 of us. I provided them the documentation that clearly stated all 4 for April 25th. They insisted that my husband & I weren't supposed to be here until April 26th. What a deal! I haven't tried to meet up with Denise yet. I hope that tomorrow is a better day. Jan
