quadmannn Posted on: 11:33 am, today Travel Advisor Five of us returned yesterday from a 4-day stay at Cancun Palace. The buffet, Mexican, Italian, and Japanese restaurants are open. The food is generally good. Service in the Japanese restaurant (we ate there twice) was slow. The steakhouse is not open yet. At this time, you do not need a reservation to eat in any of the ala carte restaurants. Just show up and they seat you. The beach is open. The pool is open. The pool bars are open. The kiddie pool is closed. The fountains at the pool area are not completed, not working yet. There is heavy equipment at one end of the beach, working daily. The bar at the beach is open. Also, food is being offered, buffet style, at the pool bars. Hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, wings. The main problem with a lot of the areas at the hotel is water leaking from the AC vents. Either that or the AC is not working. Apparently the AC draws the moisture out of the air but does not drain it away properly. I was in 2 rooms where this is happening. The 3rd room they moved me to was ok. If you enter your room and the AC is not working, slide the grate above the sinks to the side. Look for any valves (2) on the pipes turned to the "off" position. They do this to stop the leakage, but it also turns the AC off. It's easy enough to turn the valves to the "on" position. This makes the AC work again, but usually this will cause the drip tray to fill with water (it's supposed to then drain away but it does not) and it will overflow within 24 hours. The amphitheatre is not open yet. They hold the evening shows in the lobby bar. The fitness center is not open yet. When you check in, they might offer to have you stay at Sun Palace instead. If the problems I mentioned bother you too much, you might want to take them up on it. I just wrote a review for Cancun Palace. Basically everything I said above. It's a nice place, but still rough around the edges due to a rushed opening.
Ok, I do not know where to start. We (me and 3 other friends) planned our college spring break about a year ago to visit the newly renovated CP. Keep in mind we were not looking for a crazy MTV balls-to-the-wall spring break. We wanted a nice, relaxing, all inclusive, close to the city spring break, so CP sounded like a good idea. upon arrival, we went to the front desk to check in like any other normal people. We expected some construction, but we did not expect saws grinding on concrete and the smell of adhesives and paint thinners. But hey! who the hell is going to spend time in the lobby right, so no big deal. while waiting for our room keys, the clerk puts on his best puzzled face and starts dialing numbers (a real good sign in the hotel world). apparently they switched out reservations to the moon palace instead of the CP so we were at the wrong place.... WTF???? our buddy has a time share with these jokes and they cant even send us an e-mail or phone us a message telling us not to go to CP and waste our time. so we ask this desk clerk of the month why they switched our reservations and why they didn't tell us with notice. his reply was "we don't have access to that information, so I do not know". ok guy.....??? so then while waiting for the transport to MP, we decided to walk around and check out the digs. hope you like to be by yourself, are afraid of palm trees, like caution tape around a pool, and like fountains that don't work/don't have water in them. The place was a mess. Yeah, the potential is huge for the place, but trust me, you owuld be happier at a holiday inn than this hole. So we get to MP and ask them why we were switched. They immeadiately respond with "CP could not handle you, so THEY sent you to us". Thanks check-in man, you are amazing at what you do. since we have been at the MP we have had no problems and are extremly happy. I can see how people would say CP is beautiful and great, it is because they have fooled themselves into thinking that they didn't get RIPPED off. My suggestion would be to transfer to SP or MP and enjoy your vacation and avoid a huge headache. CP is not ready to open and they did rush it, there is no reason they should be having guests stay at that place because it will not leave a lasting impression. If you are staying there in march, i would hope people post after me and have very psotive things to say about it. Hey, you know what else they said at MP when we asked, they told us not to worry because they can get us back to CP on the 4th!!!!! wooo hoooo, CP obviously has all of their crap together. think about what you may get yourself into. Hopefully I eat crow and they fix all this stuff tomorrow and we end up there extremely happy and content, but I doubt that. i will try to keep you posted. ***please disregard the spelling errors because I am too pissed to go back and change them ***please remember that this is the view of only 4 people and not all people hope this helps, 4 pissed off dudes...... let me know if you have any questions!
Well definitely not a good way to start your vacation! It would make me mad too. Questions: Do you think CP was overbooked for the rooms that were finished and everything worked? What did you mean by afraid of palm trees? How many days do you have left in Cancun? Thanks, Jan
I am sooo done reading about this.. I'll give it another look in about a month.. I can not change my reservation and don't want to hear the horror stories...
I am not here to attacka nyone, i am here to help you avoid a bad time. i guess since DaveT was there (according to ralph) it counts 100%. half fun with your "half Full" vacation, when I spend a bunch of money and go somewhere, I want a "FULL" glass. Sorry, i must be a bad person. If you are staying at CP within a couple weeks, i would complain until they switch you. after a couple weeks, they should be o.k. I repeat, if you want to hang out at a "half full" resort, knock yourself out and chill at the CP. the CP should be fine within 2-3 weeks so do not completely freak, but don't act like some other poster is more legit (RALPH) because we have been there too. go ahead and HATE-AWAY on this post also. four dudes (no longer pissed because moon palace has been perfect thus far)
Tommy, Please do not think we are upset.. We truly appreciate your first hand insight. We do love the rosy picture, but appreciate all views. I am a member of Palace Resorts also and if what happened to your party happened to us, We'd be furious. You are certainly justified in your anger and frustration. I'd be raising the roof off the place, believe me. I agree with you in the fact that you spend hard earned dollars on a vacation and expect to get what you pay for. Anything less is unacceptable. The time you spent waiting around to get to the Moon Palace is time you can't get back. I fully understand where you are coming from. Thanks for posting and I hope you have a great time at the Moon. We've been there 4 times and it's our favorite.. We picked Cancun Palace this time to be closer to downtown. We stayed there 4 years ago and wanted to check out the new digs. I don't regret my decision, but we'll see how it goes. Thanks for posting.
cp 3/3/07 Read all the posts and have seen the pictures to date - so here goes. Having spoken to guests at CP there have been little problems but each guest has mentioned how responsive the personnel were to a complaint. There is no rubble in the front of the hotel any longer. The trac-hoe on the beach is gone. I agree that the overall pool area of the open pool is smaller than the old one but there are the upper pools that are not open yet. All else seems to have already been said. We were not terribly impressed with the Asian restaurant. I had Shezchuan fish and I really thought it looked like breaded fish from McDonalds down the street and some sauce on it. Cathy had tempura shrimp and the dough was not crisp - not soggy just not crisp. Picky huh. The beach. Well this is a shame. From the wall (which divides the hotel from the beach) the distance to the ocean is about 13 yards. The ocean is a beautiful as ever and a challange to swim in as it always has been. The rip tide is extremely strong. So the idea is to get in as far to the south as possible and in about 5 minutes you will be to the north of the CP. The waves are great. The footing is a little rocky but you can get beyond that by going out a few feet further. Going over again today so if there are any specific questions please list them. For those going by the end of the month I would rest assured that you will have a good time. By the way, under construction to the south of the entrance is what appears to be an outside auditorium - disco stage which is encouraging if you like the CP for the party atmosphere.
Thanks for the review. How did your umbrella work out? Do they plan on making the pool area look more tropical? Any Plans for Palapas on the beach? I guess those are the only real questions I have. Thanks again. Enjoy your vacation. Ellabear424
