Cancun Covid 19 Update

    All cinemas, nightclubs, bars and casinos are closed.

    Schools are closed but it was almost Easter Holidays anyway. My eldest (15) has daily video conferences with teachers and classmates, my youngest (10) has homework sent through by email daily.

    There is an advisory to stay at home, not an order. Most people are staying at home anyway.

    60,000 workers have already lost their jobs, 44,000 hotel rooms are closed. So there is a lot less movement in any case.

    Cases in the State are updated daily. Yesterday's (March 23) figures are below

    23 March.

    For the State of Quintana Roo there have been 80 negative tests, 7 in process, 22 positive

    Benito Juarez is the municipality that includes Cancun.

    Solidaridad includes Playa del Carmen and Akumal

    Of the 22 positive cases, 8 are Mexican, 14 are foreigners.

    21 of the 22 are in social isolation, 1 person is in hospital.

    Of the 22, 9 are women, 13 are men

    It is quite the dilemma for Mexico. I could see why they would not want foreigners visiting when the majority of cases are from visitors. And who knows how many of the mexican cases are tied to those visitors (probably most). But when the economy is driven off of the visits and it results in that many people losing their jobs yikes.

    The number of people who have lost their jobs is staggering. My heart aches for them, especially the wonderful staff workers of Temptation.

    Very similar here in Nevada with all the casinos closed.

    Over 200,000....yes that many... including myself, lost their jobs.

    This will be a year many of us will have to recover from for many years to come. But the family is safe and staying at home.

    I must say I am impressed with the number of school closures in Mexico BUT with learning electronically already. The schools here in NV have been down for 4 weeks. They are trying electronic schooling on April 1st.

    March 25 Update.

    Looks like some tests in process have been resolved.
    Negative + 8
    In process -7
    Positive +5 (3 more foreigners, 2 more Mexicans)

    1 of the new cases is in a new Municipality - Othon P Blanco which is the Chetumal area
    1 new case in Playa del Carmen area
    3 new cases in the Cancun area

    Above was the 9am update for 25/3. Here is the 6pm update for the same day.

    The only change is 10 more cases where testing is in process.
