I recently saw a post on tripadvisor.com where someone said there was now a casino in Cancun. I have not been able to find any other information about this, but if it is true I would seriously consider trying to relocate and work there. I am a table games dealer, but I used to be a travel agent. I've taken a lot trips to Cancun and Playa del Carmen over the years and it has always been my dream to "retire" there. If there was any way I could move there now and make a decent living, it would be a dream come true. If anyone knows anything about this rumored casino, I would appreciate any info you can offer.

    Thank you,

    Sarah

Forget it Sara. There are 2 places called Caliente and they are pretty much sports books. They have slots but the worst odds in the world. There is also a place upstairs at Plaza las Americas with slots.

No table games except private ones at peoples houses.

Is is just that easy T.J.? You just show up and become a bartender? If so, I'm in!
I've read a few of the other posts on this forum with warnings about how hard it is to find work if you are not Mexican...which I am not. I thought, maybe if there were casinos now that dealing was a skill they might not be able to fill so easily.
Oh, well, it was a nice idea while it lasted. Guess I'm stuck just vacationing there for a bit longer.

Well, a gringa friend of mine was a bartender at a well known place when she first got here. I will see how that worked, as you are right about not taking a job that a citizen could do. I will report back with a private message.

And when you come back next time there may just happen to be a once a week Hold Ëm' game you might be interested in. We can always use a good "mechanic" to teach us how the pros do it.

Does a flush beat a straight? I can never remember.

yes, a flush beats a straight...in real poker. I deal table games though, i.e. blackjack, three card poker, four card poker, ultimate texas hold 'em, etc. You know, the "carnival" games. In three card poker a straight beats a flush, which is weird. But anyway...
I am coming to Cancun again this November and would love to play a little hold 'em. I used to go to My Place, but I've just read that they are closed now, which is a big disappointment for me. Now I'm wondering what I'm gonna do all week at night, as I'm not really one for the big clubs.

TJ - Your gringa friend who worked as a bartender here had to have done so illegally, no way around that I don't think. I've never heard of a non-Mexican getting permission from INM to tend bar.

A couple of weeks "under the table" at La Boom during Spring Break, via a favour from a friend, doesnt really qualify as sound Cancun career advice
