In front of the hotel at oxxo supermarket they sell for 150 pesos and you can re charge in the same place you just will need help on activating the sim card you will need a mexican adress and a person that speaks spanish of course to activate, you can add also internet to that sim card for 7,15 or 30 days.

With Telus you can send and receive texts for only .60 each without adding any package to your account. That's what I do, it never ends up being more than $20. I don't make calls but they are only $1.50 per minute, again without a package.
When we're on vacation my phone is primarily an alarm clock so we don't sleep through the fun at Paty'os while having an post sexy pool nap lol.

We are going in Dec. for the first time and I am trying to figure out wifi as well. My mom will be watching our 6 month old while we are gone, and as a new mommy I don't think I can not check in daily or at least every other day! :(

How far is the pirate boat from TTR and can you walk? What about the Starbucks?
Also how safe is the area that TTR is in? Hubby doesn't want to leave the resort if we don't have to b/c of all the safety issues with the cartels and stuff. I told him I thought Cancun was pretty safe but he's not buying it...

You mean the Time Share Cartels? I would agree. It's not safe at all.

BTW, the wifi is pretty horrible. And if you don't remember your login or password, you are hooped.

The drug cartels are mostly in the north border towns. Cancun is pretty safe. Just use common sense. when traveling especially at night.

LMAO that was quite funny, you're right though you seem to run into more of the Time Share people than anyone else well unless you're on the beach than you run into the cigar and cheap sunglasses guys. Not saying that you couldn't encounter someone selling the herb if you wanted it, but we've travelled around a bit walked used the public bus and knock on wood have not come across anyone but friendly folk down in the town of Cancun.

    C'mon guys. You're from Michigan!

Flint and Detroit are the two most violent cities in the USA
