apparently the canadian travel site warns us to bring can cash or pesos,i have always brought usd with me, not sure why they are advising this
We were there in November and had no issue with people NOT taking Canadian $. Although we had US, Canadian $ and pesos on had most of the time... The US and Canadian $ are currently at PAR... so I don't think it will be an issue either way.
dollars or pescos i"ve been to cancun 19 times and i found that using the AMERICAN DOLLARS will go a long ways espically shopping.:lotsofmichaelfs::lotsofmichaelfs::huepfen013::huepfen013::huepfen013:
We always bring about $400 USD per week. We try to collect as many onses as possible before we get there too (they're harder to find down there). Our bank hates us Singles are great for tips, and US cash is good for souvenirs and smaller stuff - like a beer and a bag of chips in a convenience store. Otherwise we use credit cards. We always get a great exchange rate (they convert pesos to USD, then to CAD). Last time there I bought a liter of Cueurvo Gold at Walmart for 900 pesos. The charge on my Amex was $8.75.
$400 USD for a week sounds pretty awesome, if we can get away with it! Is stuff cheaper in Mexico or similar to the US because it's a tourist town?
It will feel pretty similar to home in terms of the prices but a little bit cheaper. I would budget probably $100 to $150 per couple for a night at a club downtown for example. But even though it may cost a couple of bucks remember where you are doing it!
It's at PAR here, but the exchange rates in the hotel really doesn't change. I think it's been the same exchange rate every time we've been there (9 times) over the past 7 years. They always give a better exchange rate for USD. We always exchange our money at home to USD and have not had any problems using it in Mexico.
tipping when tipping i found that using $2 bills that the waiters and porters maids, really appricate that the locals lool at the $2 bill as being good luck, they will help you all week:flagusa::musik026::flagusa::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:
