Rawkus, I am on the same page. If it was somehow symbolic fine but we should have progressed beyond this as "sport". I would also start a thread about "swimming" with captured dolphins. Yes, they are sure glad to be out of their habitat where they can actually call other individuals and be stuck in a tank for the duration of their lives. It should be required to be called swimming with the CAPTURED CAGED dolphins. Truth in advertising!
Chris&Tammy, The McDonald's remark was tongue in cheek. My point was that someone owns some land on which a bull ring was operated. The land may be rented/leased to the operator or the owner may be the operater. At some point, the bottom line becomes "what is the highest and best use" for this piece of real estate? Can it yield more with its current use or can it be redeveloped into something that will be a better investment? Sort of like houses in NJ years ago where the owner did not want to sell, so the giant hotels just built around them. Or when every suburban town had a drive in theater that turned into a Walmart or Kmart. My tongue in cheek remark using McDonald's might better have used a strip mall or anything else that could be developed on a bull ring site. Tell you what. The bull ring in Cancun is on a parcel of land roughly the size of Solare Plaza, one of the more popular downtown nightspots as it is loaded with restaurants and bars. It would not be a huge shock to me if, at somepoint, the bullring site was redeveloped into something similar. Drive in theaters became obsolete. Bull rings might follow the same path. I am just a guest in this country, and even though I will become a permanent resident later this year, I don't have a dog in that fight. I would like to own that land and have an expiring lease. Cheers,
No sweat TJ......I've enjoyed reading about it. Just picked up on the irony of it. No harm intended.......
