It's a tax on small businesses. The tax is estimated to raise $2.7 billion over the next ten year--- for a $1 trillion bill. Big deal. If they raised a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery, as originally planned, they would have raised a significantly greater amount of money. However, that was changed due to the lobbyists for that sector.:ranting1: And folks, please, please understand that tanning is not bad for you!!! The rates of skin cancer are higher among people who get infrequent exposure to UV light. Also, UV exposure provides the best way to get Vitamin D. But, you will not hear that from the pharm industry. They'd rather sell you medication so they could make a profit. And, jmg944t, you are right. Don't think that's a "funny" or "outrageous" comment. This is a tax on a small sector of people (a majority of tanners are white women). Please check out websites on "tanning truth", etc. You'll learn A LOT!
For those of you with an inclination to see how stupid Washington can be, you will see it first hand with some of the provisions of this bill. It is typical sellouts to varous interests. The unions got no tax on most of their medical plans and the drug industry got massive subsidies in the form of stopping US citizens from buying Canadian drugs. As the old disc jockeys used to say..."And the hits just keep on coming!"
Rich and Linda, I wasn't being funny, it is discriminatory. Strangely alot of people don't think a white person can be discriminated against. This will fall off the radar very quickly as there are not alot of good headlines for it. At the end of the day, it is just more big Gov't trying to eek out more money to throw into the money hole. And tomorrow there will be more, they are sweeping the corners of things that have not specifically been taxed.

So many things today are discriminatory. I don't know about you, but I bristle every time I hear "Press 1 for English." If you can get your butt into this country then learn how to speak the language. If I move to Argentina or some other nation I'll learn how to speak Spanish, but dammit I shouldn't have to learn how to speak Spanish if I move to Miami.
Totally off topic , but once again, I wanted to pop and put some humor on this thread..... I received a text message this morning from a friend of mine that is still quite angry that the US passed the health care reform bill so the message went as follows "The US Government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the governments political stance...A CONDOM allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of dicks & gives you a sense of security while your actually being screwed !!! I'm not against fake and bake.. but you can get skin cancer from tanning beds. We have a problem here where women are using tanning beds too much because they believe they're completely safe. You only need about 5 to 30 minutes of exposure to the skin on your face, arms, back or legs (without sunscreen) twice every week depending on your other sources of Vitamin D.
