We've had issues more with sand fleas than anything else. And don't forget about the bees last October. They were EVERYWHERE!
Weird, we've rarely seen a mosquito when we've gone... We go end of May and sometimes in September. Wonder if the time of year makes a big difference? Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk
I've never ever seen a single mosquito at TTR...I'm guessing they always spray the crap out of the grounds while all of us are passed out.
I know those fly bites normally give you the big welts. I got those my first trip in Sept, mostly because I was sitting in the grass outside a 1st floor room hanging out multiple times. Avoided doing that the last two trips, and never had a bug bite problem at all.(and normally I am the worst at getting bit) I do wonder when it would be bug season, I guess that really depends on the wind. Hopefully later in May this year will be good.
Time for a little science as I hear people all the time say they've never seen a mosquito in Cancun and yet I can assure you by the huge bites and lasting scars on Ali that there are biting things flying around there. they seem to like her and she's one of those lucky people that react badly to the bites which can create a dime sized, pus oozing wound on her legs if she doesn't spray. Very sexy. They are not mosquitoes, sand fleas, sea lice or bed bugs. They are ceratopogonidae. Also known as sand flies, midges or no-see-ums. The last because they are small and you don't see them. Small enough to be able to travel through screens, thus the lack of screens in most of Cancun as they are futile.
Yes. They tore us up in November while we were standing near the bushes at PatyO's by the lobby sliding door. Cant see them, but you DAMN sure know they are there!
Also worth noting that a lot of 'natural' repellants won't work, as studies show that things like eucalyptus oil are great against mosquitos, it actually attracts no see ums (ceratopogonidae). I ordered Avon SKIN SO SOFT Bug Guard Plus IR3535 , as I've read that IR3535 is really effective against them.
Yes we have never had a bad experience with bugs at the resort either. However I can assure you that the tex mex restaurant was handing out a bottle of spray as they sat you down for diner. We were the only ones who stayed as several others sat down and left after being eaten alive. our last day there, I was at the desk to change some money for tipping. The attendant at the desk saw the bites all over my wife and I. He informed me the "I should try some spray". That was when I informed him that perhaps the resort should be the ones to try some "spray". Though the grounds etc... and workers go a grt job, this is one area that certainly deserves a little more attention. Not one to bitch and complain, but it was really bad and everyone knew including the people working there.
