I was really looking forward to meeting you as well, Jim. Your posts here are always witty, humorous and thoughtful (Now you have to continue to live up to that...no pressure...lol). You lived up to everything I anticipated, as well. A bright, funny genuinely nice guy. (Ladies...he's good looking too...single with a lovely daughter....and my match making commission is very reasonable) I was even able to forgive you for being a Republican...lol! Weird....every single American I met there in our two weeks was a Republican...what's up with that??? I had a lot of fun spending time with them pushing button's in a good natured way. I even got one guy, Rob from Philly, drunk enough to toast the Democrats with me....lol. He was hanging his head in shame the next day...lol I sincerely hope you will make it out to Calgary for a visit, soon. Kim and I will come out to the Big Apple to see you, for sure. The highlight of our trip is our friendship , Jim.
for the one millionth time, it's not Techno music. It's called House music. Techno disappeared in 1995. You need to remember that House music along with Hip Hop are the dominant dance music genres all over the world. Therefore, whether you are at Nice Shoes, or at a club on the Party Zone, that's the kind of music the DJ's are going to play. This is because that is what people listen to at the clubs. I'm happy that you made the most of it and you still ended up having a great time !!
Thanks for the correction. House music.....not in my house...lol! I haven't been to clubs all over the world and I guess the last time I was in a "Dance Club" it was called Techno...lol. Frankly, I don't see a lot of difference. It was a little "tinny" at times...perhaps some bass speakers would help that. I do really, really enjoy the thought provoking lyrics (sometimes so stirring I was moved to tears). The creative aspect of this form of music is particularly inspiring. Such clever and talented computers. Elvis, The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Mo-Town.....they wouldn't have had a chance if we had had "House Music" in the 50's and 60's...
That's very well put !! I do agree with you, that sometimes the DJ's will play TOO MUCH House music. They should definitely spice it up a bit more often. A little bit of 70's, 80's old school, or salsa will surely spice things up and get more people on the dance floor. And yes, even country music would not hurt either lol lol !! Truly enjoyed your trip report. I can't wait to go back. I arrive on the 25th. of June for 2 weeks and this time seems like an eternity to wait !!
Great TR and Jim is spot on with his reply as well. Shame we didn't meet but I think it was you playing one late afternoon at the quiet pool sometime last week... tues??? wed??? Sorry can't give you a more definite day- alcohol has made some of the days a bit blurry... If it was indee you, We had a jacuzzi room right across from the quiet pool bar and enjoyed the tunes.
I know what you mean about the alcohol blur...lol. There were some guys from the east coast of Canada with a guitar over at the quiet pool bar while we were there. And I spent an afternoon playing some tunes, (I think it was Saturday 17th) with some other people taking turns. Lots of talent around Sorry we missed you two. Hopefully next time
I agree wholeheartedly with you. I'm guessing House music appeals to people in their early 20's? If you look at the demographics I would say that the average age there is at least mid 30's. Probably a little higher. And many of the younger set take off to the clubs in the evening. Mixing it up with other genres would be welcome by most I would think. Hope you have a blast on your trip! Mixing it up would definitely be
I am definately going to make an effort to get to calgary soon, I must see where all these democrats hide haha... seriously though, after I get back from Disney with the little one, Im going to work on some trip plans to see when I can get up there... Our friendship was definately a highlight, im still thinking and laughing about some of the conversations we had and the picture with the canada mug......lol..memorable times
