For last seasons CONTENDER fans....Peter Manfredo will be fighting in late October..........more details to follow
2 big fights this week :!: :!: I don't like how dirty K-9 fought last week :!: Thought it was the worst fight yet...hope this week is better :!:
R.I. GAL...how are ya'? I got some great news last night....got a call from a friend at the gym...he has a friend who is training a heavyweight who signed a contract to fight Joe Mesi in Manistee Michigan this Friday night on Fox Sports Net...so I will be working in the underdog corner....my first pro fight...from what I hear, my guy is a bleeder...better bring all the tricks of the trade with me...If you get that channel...watch it...I will be wearing the black KAYO ring jacket...with the Navy emblem on the sleeve....
Finally a heavyweight fight :!: :!: I'll be watching for ya CUTMAN :!: :!: Thanx for the heads up we used to check for boxing every week but it has gotten so rare we stopped lookin :!: What did ya think of K-9 :?:
I think he was a little rough (dirty) but he's from my hometown...Motown is not known for their overly nice people... I didnt walk away with the impression he was out of hand...he fought his fight...and it paid off....btw...the kid he fought had way better skills...but K-9 took him out of his game....
I thought he was way dirty....but considering what these guys have at steak I guess ya can'y really blame him :!:
Joe Mesi vs. Jason Weiss On 9/15/06 at the Indian River Casino, in Manistee, Michigan, Joe Mesi (something like 30-0) won a 4 round unanimous decision against Jason Weiss (3-1). I worked as Jason's cutman. Jason is a hell of a guy, but was not in the shape he needed to be in for the fight. For the first 2 rounds, Jason held his own, landing solid...and I mean...solid.....jabs. Swelled up Mesi's eye nice, but Mesi made sure he did just a little more to win those rounds. In the third round, Mesi started to pick it up a bit and Jason was slowing down. Jason did land one beautiful right hand that shot sweat into the front row seats and got the crowd into it. Jason got a cut on the inside of his mouth during the third which are tough to stop. Cant use coagulants in the mouth so direct pressure was my only option. I got it to stop but first thing out in the fourth round a jab from Mesi opened it right back up. During the fourth round, Jason went into survival mode, throwing round looping slow punches instead of straight punches and did what he had to do to stay on his feet for the final bell. Mesi landed sound combinations and hurt Jason, but couldnt find him for the big finish. Joe Mesi wins by unanimous decision...all judges scored the fight 40-36. This was my first pro fight as a cutman and I can tell you, this is a tough, tough brutal sport. On a beautiful note....as a fight fan... and that is what I am...a true fan, it was the greatest night of my life. (besides the usual kids and marriage stuff). At one point in the fight, former Heavyweight Champ Michael Moorer, gets my attention and tells me to tell Jason to throw the left hook right after the jab. Because I am a cutman...and have never boxed, I just pointed at my swabs and the Champ nknew what I meant. Seated six feet from me while in the corner...were Michael Moorer, Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and K-9 Bundrage from The COntender....a dream come true...for me...Im highly blessed and am honored that I can bring all you fight fans a look at my fights from "the Corner"......I'll leave you with this...it was remarkable to see Joe Mesi across the ring from me. He seemed larger than life, and I feared for our fighter. He is a Champion person, came over to our dressing room after the fight signed autographs and was a very humble man. He would be an excellent Heavyweight Champ...as a role model. He is a wonderful ambassador for the sport of boxing. As for Jason Weiss...he, my friends has all the talent in the world to go a long way in the sport of boxing. I hope he can dedicate himself to the gym and to learning the "Sweet Science". Keep an eye out for him in the future. I wish both these fine men all the best in their careers. " Leave it all in the ring!" The Cutman
