I agree with all 3 points..I'm trying to get one started for the 29th of May...But i only have 11 interested people..and a couple of them are having second thoughts...So they most likely be no shows...... I don't want to stick Steve with the bill...I guess i'll wait until next year...:icon_neutral:

Glenn and I were there at 9:00 am ready to go. I don't think it was a matter of hangovers after to talking to people slated to go. I think alot thought that because every cruise had been cancelled for the two days prior that being that it was still a red flag that Steve's booze cruise would also be cancelled. Of course if you go to the front desk they will tell you it is cancelled as it is not the hotels cruise. Rob and I did try to get it going again. It was just to hard from that point to get the people together. Then we are also having to trust the same group to once again show up at the front door. Sorry Steve I never got around to calling you as my paper got all wet and your phone number smudged along with it. I would have like to go forsure and just saying we were out until 4:30 am after going to bulldogs and still made it at the front door to go. Hangovers are a poor excuse with a planned event.

you guys dont rule out cabo just yet either as we are locking in people for a cabo invasion and presently toying with dates ----------leaning towards a mid april to late april date there on what we are calling "cancun-cares all about cabo"

Icecube it's hard being the one that does all the pm's and work to get it together and then not have people show up. I worked hard to get this booze cruise going and it sucked that in the end Steve got screwed and all that work was for nothing. I can't believe that at the end of May that is all the response you are getting for one but it will get to the point that those of us who go beyond to get it going won't if people don't show.

Is this no show a normal thing or was it something that just happened on 5/2? I still think some sort of pay in advance system protects Steve and truly all that sign up. I don't buy the excuse that "somebodya said" the cruise was cancelled. Goodness...........I really think that message needs to be given by Steve or his representative.

Thanks for the feedback and support everyone. I wanted to let this run a little before replying back.

    A few things:

I think the problem on this particular day was the weather more than anything. While it was warm and sunny it was also windy. The previous two days all cruises had been cancelled and it seems word got around and people presumed this one would be too. As it turned out we would have been able to go ahead, but what I hoped to do was to take a consensus and see if we should rearrange it for 2 days later, which as it turned out was perfect weather. I wasnt able to do that because there were so few people who came to see what the plans were.

Re communication. I'm not sure what more could have been done. The weather can change from good to bad to good again in a day. We are always at the mercy of the weather and never know until the actual day of the cruise. It's the harbourmaster who decides if cruises can go ahead, he informs the boat operators and they inform us. Certainly it's no use asking the hotel, 99% of the staff wont know about our cruise and those that do will send you off in another direction deliberately.

We always have some no shows but normally the no shows arent high enough to force cancellation. In fact this is only the 2nd time in 5 years we had to cancel on the day due to no shows, and as I mentioned the weather played a bigger part than usual.

We did lose money but it wasnt a significant amount. Thanks to several people who offered to pay something even though it was none of their fault.

Re the suggestion of a 'captain' to organise things on resort, if people want to volunteer to do this then that's great. I know sometimes people enjoy co-ordinating things and letting people know what's going on. But I wouldn't want to force it on anyone, if people want to take on the responsibility that's great, if not that's cool too.

For the short term future, things always slow down at this time of year until to the New Year. It doesnt look like we have enough people around until at least the end of June for another cruise, and July looks quiet at the moment too. In July, Jannet will be 8 months pregnant with the baby arriving late Aug/early Sept so we were planning to put cruises on hold until at least the New Year in any case.

Longer term, I think we will have to move to a deposit payment in advance via paypal etc. It will probably be something like $25 pp up front with $40 paid on the day. We'll certainly continue running cruises when there is sufficient demand once we are settled into our new routine with the baby. We've recently had a delivery of 100 new Boobs Cruise T shirts and they need to be got rid of somehow :)
