In fact I take that back , It wasnt always a case of mismanaging my money, for example my bank once bounced a direct debits ( d/d ), now, the d/d was for £17, they charged me £25 for bouncing it, the company resubmitted the d/d before I received the letter from the bank to deposit more money and they bounced it again, charging me £25, again, the two £25 charges sent me overdrawn that month to which they then charged me £20 foir doing so    ...

Total charges for a £17 error = £70, hardly fair now is it.

There's several documented cases, the best been where a single mother who's also too ill to work had her dole/sick money paid into her bank, due to an error by the Department of health and security they missed her paydate one month resulting in her bank bouncing all her d/d and standing orders therefore charging her nearly £300, now she couldnt afford to pay this back, it sent her over drawn and her bank then charged her monthly for a whole year, it totalled nearly £4,000 in charges for a year

Bank charges of this disputd nature make up only 1% of the profit banks make each year, combined profit of the banks runs into the tens of billions, they can afford to give it back.

Without knowing the exact details I cant comment for 100% Gemma but, I summise that there bluffing it out, giving him the old its in the hands of our solicitors then , as you say, telling him he has to attend........ right up untill a few days before the hearing when they'll send him a letter giving in and offering a full settlement.

Tell him to have a look at the Nat West section on the website posted on page one.

    Ian

What, what?! I don't read much UK news nowadays, I need to know all about this! When was this decided and when does it have to be done by? I.E. Can it wait until August when I'm back in the UK and able to trawl through bank statements?!

Will tell my sis too as I'm sure she like me has bank charges against her!

    Gemma helloooooooooo!

Email me if you need any help with any of it, it's really easy to do and there is lots of info on the web. You and Adam MUST both do it! You could probably get the money in time for Cancun too, I sent my first letter on the 11th December so it's taken about 6 weeks.

If you've got online banking then go through all your old statements and make a list of EVERY charge OR you can write to the bank and send them a tenner asking them, under the data protection act, to tell you all your charges for the last 6 years. this forum is good if you need some inspiration: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=102 also that site is good for other info and letter templates etc.

Anyway, do it do it do it - all of you do it, get back what is rightfully yours ra ra ra.

Im sure your friend wont have to go to court, most banks are paying in full before it gets to court to avoid paying interest and extra costs.
