Now if we can just get Geno or Pat to open a cheesesteak place here, we'll be good to go Strangely enough, I miss TexMex food, which is completely different from the stuff they serve here.
Now your talking!!! There was a cheesteak place that closed a couple yrs ago. For former Philly residence, they were awful.
I visited Philly once and had to go to South Philly for one. I opted for Pat's instead of Geno's but both are awesome. It's hard to find a good one in Texas. They don't grasp the concept of melting the cheese WITH the meat, not putting it on top. There is one place though, called Texadelphia that makes a good one, if you're ever in Houston.
I have to say, we went to the Kebab shop last week and were very dissapointed. The kebab meat was dry and not much of it, the pitta was falling apart and the chips were terrible, soggy and hardly cooked. The Turkish owner wasn't there, it was a couple of Mexican guys i think. Real shame because he used to do the best chips in Cancun by a mile, he said it was because of the oil was the same oil used for cooking the kibis, plus he cooked them until golden brown. I didn't see the kibis (not sure what he called them before but they are like Kibis anyway) on the menu though and they were also nice before. I'll give it another try but it wasn't a touch on before :icon_neutral:
Gotta aggree about the Fries....so soggy. But the two times I have been there the Kebabs were pretty good, but I love the garlic sauce, so I loaded it on them, so I could't tell if it was dry.
I went once a week or 2 ago. The kebabs were as good as I remembered them to be (although, like Tori, I always pile on the garlic sauce so I might not notice the difference haha). I didn't try the fries because I'm on a diet, but my husband and friends seemed to enjoy them and they didn't look soggy. But Sam is right, the menu was more limited, with no kibis. Not that I mind because I'm only there for the kebabs!
Still no word on the falafels? Kibis are the meat-treats that the sellers carry round in a glass box? Good to know that the fries are done with the same oil. I hope the falafels arent dipped in "meat oil" as well
I used to buy some Kibis at Playa Delphines from a guy with the fish aquarium. Really good! And ya I know it isnt spelled right!:biggrinbandit:
