Buffet food is a 2*, the sit down reservations restaurants move it up to a 2.5-3*. Huge variety at the buffet - but after a week it does all look the same. I do feel bad for picky eaters, as there is a ton of fresh fruit & vegetables & local Mexican fare each day. Be adventuresome and do not miss the Saturday morning breakfast soup, Pazole.

10am is the line-up for dinner reservations - stand in line, its well worth it. Try and avoid the buffet at night.

Pools are hit & miss - some weeks the heat works better than others in the Sexy pool. The sports & quiet pool were very cool our last trip.

No one forces you to tip - and from what we have seen the majority of folks do not tip or tip very lightly, after all, the resort does say all tips included. You will be served with great respect even if you do not tip - just do not be demanding and rude. And please do tip the hard working folks of TTR.

The rooms are musty - its super humid and without airflow they get musty. So if you are on the 2nd/3rd floor, keep your patio door open during the day and between that and the AC the smell will go away. It's not horrible, and you will be used to it after a day or two.

For the money this resort can't be beat - its a frat party for adults. Don't go thinking its a 5* resort. Its a solid 2.5* resort with an awesome group of visitors, staff, and a very fun time. Look at all these people that are repeat visitors!

Some rooms start to smell like sex. Not sure whether you pay extra for that.

We've been to a snooty 5-star resort with amazing gourmet food and all the works...but it's Temptation we're going back to (3rd time in 2 years) because it's much more fun.

I enjoy reading the bad reviews because I think they're funny. The people who hate TTR generally seem to have not done much travelling (look at how many TTR reviews on TripAdvisor are the posters' first/only review) or they seem to have done no research and wind up shocked by the environment.

I agree with everyone above. So, if you do decide to go:

    1. Buffet--Often, the better the buffet food looks, the worse it tastes. The pizza looked great, but was like cardboard. The mystery fish in unattractive green sauce...Delicious! Also, there's a grill where they will make your food to order, and it's great.

    2. Pools--I hate cold water too, and unfortunately water temps will be affected by the weather. But we just had a record warm December, so the odds are in our favor. Late spring, summer, and early fall you should have no problems. Other times, yeah, it's a risk.

    3. Tips--I think the negative Nellies might be confusing "forced to tip" with the timeshare people? When you check in, they will be very pushy about trying to get you to go to a "welcome breakfast" or "resort tour" which is really the timeshare sales pitch. They will want a credit card or cash deposit to "guarantee your appointment." This is a huge turn-off, and does set a lot of visitors' teeth on edge from the get-go. Lie. Tell them you're repeaters and you want to be shown directly to your room. Cross your arms and get testy. This is the only time I will advocate being rude to the staff, but sometimes that's the only way to get them to back off.

    4. Smell--same smell as in the 5 diamond resorts in the tropics. Hits you when you first get to the room, then you get used to it. Bring some really strong scented candles if you have room, or even a wad of dryer sheets--seriously--it helps!

dont change your mind!! BIG mistake! we are headed back on monday for two wks..this is our 8/9th trip to TTR! last visit we became members!! The heat and humidity sometimes leave a sm smell, but that happens in many places...the buffet is amazing..if you cant find something to eat, its your own fault!! and there are several other options if you dont want the buffet....TTR is a blast and we will continue to be repeat visiters for many years to come!! :)
hope you make it to TTR!!

I am really picky with food, and dislike pork and fish, so sometimes it is hard for me to eat a lot of what is offered at TTR - that is my issue and not the fault of the resort. What I can eat is fine - not the best and not the worst, but just fine when considering the cost and that it is less there for all-inclusive than most places we stay for just the room cost (like Vegas).

You do not HAVE to tip, that is optional - and there is in no way any "force" involved with tipping.

Every place I have been to in Cancun has a "humidity-musty" smell - kind of like Florida or anywhere else like that. It isn't the resort, it is the tropical location.

We have been there three times and the sexy pool was always perfectly fine, and actually sometimes it was too warm. I didn't go in the other pools. Coming from Seattle, the water and outdoor temperature was awesome, and I was just happy to be IN a pool outside in Oct., Jan., and April - and will be thrilled to be back in two weeks!!

TTR is NOT a 5 star place, nor does it pretend to be. The 3-4 stars it gets in ratings are about right. I have many family and friends who are SUPER uptight about the type of fun we all enjoy at TTR, and why anyone like that would go there is beyond comprehension. But, to someone like that, being offended would taint the entire experience, and affect their judgment about food etc. We all wouldn't be on this forum, and there certainly wouldn't be so many of us repeaters if those reviews were accurate. You just need to have the personality that enjoys the atmosphere there, and appreciates the sexy fun - like spring break for 40 year olds!!

I do wish they had a Mexican restaurant there, not just a burrito as one of the options to order. Seattle does not have great Mexican restaurants and I miss that being from SoCal, and had hoped to get great Mexican food there. My husband likes the Asian place, we both like the Italian place and Margaritas. The steak is wrapped in bacon and they don't tell you that on the menu, that is kind of the worst thing I have to say about the food, and that is my own pickiness. Breakfast can be made to order so not a problem. The coffee is terrible, so if you care about that at all, bring your own and make it in the room. I'm bringing a case of 5-hour energy and green tea with a water boiler - all good :)

Now to show you opinions vary......we both think the coffee is pretty good... strong but good... ref. the buffet... it's pretty darn good and for me it's the only place I want to eat... You can wear shorts in there and your food is ready upon arrival... and usually darn tasty...Our room last June was very humid at all times.. the air conditioner just could not win with all the humidity... it rained alot while we were there... our clothes never felt dry...even right off the hanger...this gets old real quick but you just have to shrug it off......also when it rains there is very little to do... the sports bar is kind of a joke and rather uncomfortable...also the room where they do the night time entertainment is not set up well either and was leaking last year...but when the sun is shining a chair at the beach or at the pool is hard to beat... it's all what you make of it....
