Nice dressier shorts and a collared shirt work just fine, sandals as long as they're not flip flops or too beachy looking. They're not too bothered really.

That being said. I bought some Tommy Bahama linen pants this year and for a guy who has been known to wear shorts in the snow I have to say they are soooo comfortable. I think even Donald approved, he hates seeing my hairy legs at supper
