From what i heard they really rape you in International conversion fees. You get a conversion fee + atm fee sometimes even a surcharge at your local bank. Might be cheaper if you convert to pesos ahead of time and bring some travelers checks.
Seriously mate I wouldnt bother buying $'s . You'll be changing your £'s to $'s and then when you spend the $'s in a shop, bar or retaurant you'll get the change in peso's at the shop, bar, restaurants exchange rate, which in some places can be verging on the daylight robbery stakes. You only have to do this a few times a day and it will make a sizeable chunk in your holiday spending cash. Take enough peso's for the first few days and your cash card ( I'd call at your bank branch first and let them know your going and also find out how much they charge per transaction, various accounts have different charges, even if there held at the same bank. Marks and Spencers are currently offering the peso at 20.23 per £1 and Travelex are offering peso at 20.61 per £1. Depending how close you are to one of their branch's I normally just print off the highest exch rate, go to my local Thomas Cooks / Thomsons ( used to be Lunn Polly ) and they'll at least match that rate ( and have been known to beat it ). HTH Ian
Yeah i think my conversion fee was like 2 cents or something like that on top of a small service charge (2-3 bucks).
yea that aint too bad, reckon i could work that one out,at least id feel like i was rich with all the pesos, haha.
