    Twin,

Just finished watching the last debate. I basically ignored what the president was saying so that I could focus entirely on his competitor. He's agreed with Mr. Obama on most issues, with the exception of the economy, but his idea on how to fix the economy doesn't add up when you crunch the numbers. To me he's just found a spot to exploit and went "all in" on that with no clear cut vision on how to actually pull it off.

I know you have issues with Mr. Obama, and you have made that abundantly clear. So let's not beat that dead horse in this reply. My question to you, what has Mr. Romney said/shown that makes you believe he is a good choice to be president?

    Slore,

I caught a good chunk of the debate but not all of it as I'm out of town on business.

My reasons for supporting Romney as opposed to Obama are pretty straight forward. I look at Romney as a business person who has led before and done so very well. I look at Obama as someone who has not led and has not been successful in these last four years. I see us as needing a new direction that will turn things around and when I listen to President Obama I hear him say the same exact things he said four years ago. In other words he has had four years of opportunity to do what he said he was going to do and half of that time was with a full Democratic Congress. He didn't do what he said he was going to do, plain and simple. Had he accomplished what he said he was going to accomplish I would be out there campaigning for him.

I see Romney as a chance to change directions. I think he will look at many federal programs and cut some that are either redundant or just plain useless. I look at the various spending programs that have been in place during my lifetime and they just haven't worked. If those programs can be cut and our tax code be made more efficient, as Romney has said he is going to do, then I think we will be headed in the right direction.

Neither candidate has numbers that add up. Both of them are making promises that we, the taxpayers, can't keep. Slore, I'm really in fear for the future of my kids and their kids. What will their world be like under the current policies? Frankly, it is not a pretty picture. What will happen to Social Security in the future? Contrary to the rhetoric, most of our debt is not held by the Chinese but by our own Social Security Administration. What happens when it can't be paid back?

Sadly Slore, neither you nor I will know if either one of us is right until about four years from now. Then we'll have to see where we are and where we are headed. Let's hope that it is a positive direction.

    Interesting:

8-10 must be better than 4

This means that for all his economical prowess, he may not have the budget balanced even after 2 terms.

You believe Govt should be run as a business? Primary aim to generate profits for a minority group of "shareholders"?

You probably picked the right guy ;)

No, I think government should be run the way Obama runs it by spending massive amounts of money it doesn't have and giving it away to those who give him money like his "Green" companies and the UAW and the teachers unions.

If you are referring to the minority as being the 53% of us that work to pay for those that don't work, then I guess we would qualify as the minority shareholders.

Seriously Steve, I think it's about time we look to running government with the idea of what works and what doesn't work. Clearly Obama's policies and those of most of his predecessors have not worked, so why not try something new? If you are referring to the minority as being the 53% of us that work to pay for those that don't work, then I guess we would qualify as the minority.

From your highlighted remark, it seems as though 47% of the country doesn't work. That didn't seem right, so I did some rough calculations (with help from the interweb).

    *ESTIMATES
    Total US population: 311 Million
    Working age population: 240 Million
    53% of population: 164 Million

    Total US unemployed: 12 Million

So you're saying only 164 Million of us work and we pay for the other 147 Million, yet there's only 12 Million officially unemployed? My head hurts if that's the case.

Also if you agree that not only Pres Obama's tactics haven't worked, but MOST of his predecessors too, is Romney some kind of mystical warrior? If you really wanted to try something "new", it seems as though you would be backing a 3rd party candidate. You're going to continue to get the same from the Rep/Dem as they have shown for several decades.

i am in north carolina this week and i cant help but notice all of the campaigning here. its quite remarkable as this is a "battle" state for the electoral college.

all of the ads for mitt are upbeat and positive and about change he is wanting to make

all of obamas ads are simply ads designed in every possible way to make mitt look like a devil and while that is what most politicians do...the amazing side (which is not typical of a political campaign at all)....is...there is no talk whatsoever about anything he has done, is doing or plans to do

    NADA

    just an observation

I have noticed the same thing in my travels Rob. I think the last thing Obama wants to do is to campaign on his record. His record is so atrocious that many people think he is intentionally trying to ruin the country. That's pretty severe when a sitting President is considered to be so incompetent that his actions are doing more harm than good.

My comment about the 53% who work are also the 53% who are paying taxes so that the 47% don't have to pay any taxes. Hence my comment.

I also made a comment about not only Obama but most of his predecessors in the White House. If we look at most of the programs that have been fostered out there over the last fifty years we see a long line of failures. The most prominent of which are the inner cities. Trillions of dollars have been pumped into the inner cities and have produced what? We have rampant crime, poverty, and a history of government dependence. None of the programs have produced anything other than a vehicle for buying votes. "Vote for Me and I'll give you Free Stuff!!!" is the mantra and the programs haven't worked.

I think Romney may be looking at programs to see if they can be eliminated, or streamlined to make them more efficient. Slore, you look at Romney and come up with negatives, but what are the positives of Obama? I can't see one positive thing that he has done here in the US. This guy is so arrogant he points to the killing of Bin Laden and used the term "I" over and over. He doesn't even have the common sense to give credit to the military who risked their lives to take out the scumbag.

I'm old enough to have lived through many Presidents and Obama is the first one that has come even close to exceeding Jimmy Carter in his incompetence.

    Twin,

Please detail the negatives I've come up with about Romney. I've read your comments on various threads and I would sure love to meet you one day and see how life is from your perspective.

Well Slore I did get a chance to check out the particular quote that you noted. It is really interesting how a "Progressive" blog can distort things. The quote about Obama not balancing the budget comes from his PROMISE that he would balance the budget and get the deficit under control four years ago. Let's see how the score card reads on that one. He not only didn't balance the budget but he DOUBLED the deficit. His spending is out of control. Now, what Romney was referring to was Obama's PROMISE and his reality. It probably will take at least eight to ten years to balance the budget, but it can be done. So, yes it will take Romney at least eight years to do it, but he didn't PROMISE to do it in four, like Obama did.

Slore, your source of information is similar to another situation that I came across. There was an article about the new governor of Maine and how he was the darling of the Tea Party. Well, the Maine NAACP demanded that the governor talk to black inmates in Maine prisons on Martin Luther King's birthday. When he didn't do what they requested they put out a news release about his ignoring MLK's birthday. The Huffington Post which is about as left wing and idiotic as anything out there went ballistic about the "racist" governor.

As Paul Harvey used to say, "and now the rest of the story." The governor had done what he had done every MLK day for the last 20 years which was to attend an MLK breakfast in his home town. Oh yeah, one other thing....this "racist" governor also has an adopted son....from Jamaica.

So you see Slore, there is more to the story than the left side wanted you to know. People love to blast Fox News, but MSNBC and Huffington and others have a real track record of massive distortion to make a point. One thing I have found about the lefties is that they are liberal and so caring until someone can show them where they are wrong and then there reaction is to just call people names and ignore the issues.

Slore, I hope we can meet up some day and solve the problems of the world. My perspective on life is really fairly simple. I look at the practical side of life and that includes the politics of this country. If something doesn't work then it should be changed. Obama's policies haven't worked and it's pretty obvious he isn't going to change, so let's change the person in the office.
