I have been doing the 5 and 7 diet off and on for awhile. Two days a week I reduce calorie intake the other 5 days I take in about 2000 calories per day.

Nutrisystem has started selling a one week (7 days) pre-boxed package thru Walmart (Sam's Wholesale)
I am hoping to buy two weeks ( 14 days) and then using 2 days a week as a diet plan and keeping it up for 7 weeks. On the plan I can take in about 1000 calories a day ( I also walk 3 miles in a hour, 3 to 4 days a week which burns about 300 calories per walk) So, I guess two days a week I will reduce calories about 2600 calories. I have their basic meals and snacks and energy drinks and add vegetables for those two days per week.
I was wondering about your opinion on this plan...

    thanks

I've been checking out this post every few days. The advice has been good. I'm heading down on the 22nd. I've stalled at the 10 pound left to go mark. I'm not a big eater...I average between 800 and 1000 calories per day. I do a 30 min abs class at the gym 2 x's per week. I do light machine weights 3 x's per week and the treadmill for 15 to 20 minutes 3 x's per week.
I think my fault it not eating enough to sustain my workout, but I'm just not hungry.
    I'm female, 165 pounds, age 51.
I feel most comfortable at 150 - 155. I also think the life changes within me is hindering my weight loss.
I've googled and googled seeking help but have become so confused with all the info.
    Any suggestions?

I think you hit the nail on the head! You are probably not eating enough. Look at it this way...Your basal metabolic rate, the amount of calories your body burns at rest, is probably about 1400 calories per day. You are probably burning another 800 to 1000 if you have an active lifestyle and workout with a fair amount of intensity.

Theoretically, a person that is working out is able to eat more and provide their body better nutrition and still maintain a daily caloric deficit. Let say you burn 2200 calories per day, you could be eating 1600 calories of nutrition to keep your metabolism high. If you are not getting good nutrition, your body is probably shutting down its metabolism and you are not losing the weight you could be losing.

I have pretty bad opinion of Nutrisystem foods and diets. So I'll keep it to myself.
Much better is a diet composed of mostly whole foods from a variety of sources, with a focus on lean proteins at every meal.
reasonable carbs from healthy sources (rice, whole wheat pasta, potato) in moderation
healthy fats (avocado, cashews, extra virgin olive oil, natural peanut butter)
exercise regularly 4-5 days a week and getting the heart rate up for 30-45 mins (3 mile walk in an hour is fairly slow and wont get the heart rate going much unless it's uphill)
I recommend weight training for EVERYONE because if you want to look toned and burn more calories sitting on your ass doing nothing, building muscle accomplishes that.

ALL that being said, your plan is certainly better than no plan AND much better than 80% of people out there....So it if works for you and your happy, great!

your caloric intake is horrible. You can't sustain any muscle on that amount (you also didn't mention what those calories consist of and that's very important)
most women focus on bodyweight. DON'T. I have female friends who weigh 105 and look like crap, and friends who weight 160 and look amazing. Focus on what you look like in the mirror. If you build muscle and lose fat, your weight remains unchanged but you will look much better.

recommend you look carefully at your diet. if you don't have much of an appetite, that's an indication your metabolic rate is slow. You are starving yourself with such low calories so your body will learn to maintain on those low calories and will retain fat to use for energy.

Not often the recommendation is eat more, but that's what I would tell you.
