Appearantly Sprint will work in Cancun. I am pleasantly surprised. http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/ueContent.jsp?scTopic=wirelessData
You can't text message down there because it is on analog. And you do have to do like Jason has said and call your provider and switch it over. There is quite a bit of cel phone fraud down there so they have to open up your line for access down there. I do it every time I go and no problems.
well last year my nextel worked, i just turned on the international for the month then cancelled it, 2 way as well as calling however caller id doesnt work it just says line 1 or something, but this year i switched over to verizon so im not sure, i know when i went to canada i switched on the international and it was weird i could make calls receive calls (caller id worked) send texts but i couldnt check my voicemail or send/receive pic/video messages
I might bring mine. When I went in August, the 2 way pager on my MIKE phone worked but not the actual calling. I could page any Nextel / TELUS person that had a 2 way pager on their phone
Cingular worked just fine in Cancun. Higher per minute rate, but no monthly fee for international service. I think I paid US$0.50/minute or something like that.
LEAVE YOUR PHONES AT HOME, Invest in a cheap 20 dollar prepaid phone, and by calling cards provided by telcel i believe. I have had the same phone number for years on my phone mexican prepaid, all i do is buy calling cards. I found a 200 minute phone card unused laying around at my house the other day so im good too go as soon as i touch down You can purchase cheap phones as low as 10-20 us dollars at the walmart , or cell phone stores in mexico. So buy a cheap one because the chip thats inside the phone, does not work once u leave mexico.
