And also will be looking for a room to live in Cancun or in close proximity. Hi Marlo, Thank you for your feedback. I do not intend on staying in Cancun for longer than 6 months and I am aware of the immigration law change. My plan is to find a job (ideally smthing that will pay under the table) in hospitality that will cover my basic living expenses there. I Could you advise me any good website, newspaper that offers jobs and apartments(Im only looking for a basic roomshare thing). You might have a hard time finding anything in hospitality here that pays under the table, especially being a foreigner! And without a valid job and with only a travel visa, you won't be able to open a bank account either. Basically, a quick rule of thumb, is if a Mexican can do the job, then generally the Mexican gets the job. This is why you won't find too many foreigners doing things like bar tending (which is unionized) or much anything either then entertainment staff, time shares, call centers, etc...but again, they won't hire illegally.

To back up the others, it's going to be really difficult to find anything that pays under the table, especially in hospitality - everything's pretty well controlled and the penalties are high. The one area you might be able to find something of the like is in selling timeshares - some companies might risk it as they know its such a temporary job, not many people last that long. You also have to have a certain personality to do this successfully, as the pay is commission only. Your best bet will be to look on computrabajo - a jobs website. Nevertheless, you haven't got much time to sort anything out, and if you don't do so before you leave the UK you're basically stuffed due to the law change that came in recently. Otherwise, just bring enough money for your stay here, just in case we're actually right (we most likely are, living here and all), so you don't end up penniless. Cancun is not the cheapest place to live either, with many day-to-day things costing the same as the UK; accommodation is a lot cheaper though, although not of the same standard.

For a house/roomshare - the novedades newspaper usually has stuff. Finding a job without legal status in Mexico will be very difficult to say the least. Finding a place to stay is much easier and you just have to search for a place that is furnished vs nothing provided in the apartment. Cost will vary depending on location of course with the hotel zone being the most expensive.
I'd agree with the majority on the difficulties you will encounter. Many Brits plan on coming over for 6 months expecting it to be like Aya Napa or Kavos. Cancun is very different. Everyone that is generous enough to give you answers here either lives in Cancun or knows it well already and have for many years. You shouldn't take offence if what they tell you doesn't match up to what you expect or want Finding a legal job will be impossible without a Visa to work that you have to apply for in your home country, and you can only do that after you have a job offer. There will be zero jobs as a waitress or bartender you could get legally. Finding an illegal job will not be easy either - and if you do manage to find one, you are subject to employer exploitation with no recourse, liable to be deported and likely to not earn enough to live on. Forget bank accounts. 'Tourists' do not need Mexican bank accounts - banks will not let you open one with a tourist visa. Accommodation: I always advise people to stay in a hotel for the first few weeks. Never agree to anything online before you get here. Use your time in a hotel to discover areas you may like to live and view many places before deciding on one. Quality of accommodation is very low if you are looking for cheap places. Sure you might find somewhere for 3000 pesos a month but first the landlord would have to agree to a short term let and then it would likely be in a not very nice area a long way from anywhere and probably a disgusting place to live in. May I ask, what prompted you to want to move to Cancun if you haven't been here before? And do you speak any Spanish?
