Cancun Go and have a good time! My son has an "interesting" job and my wife asked him if we should go last year as we have in the past, his reply was, " I'd be more concerned if you were going to Providence, just be careful where you go." (Providence, RI). Stay with the TTR group and you will be fine. We also went to Isla for a day and had a good time, as someone else said, use common sense, don't go anywhere you would not go at home!
Like everyone has said, just be smart and use your head, stay in public view. And if you come across the CANDYMAN, keep walking and say no thanks not for me/us! We came across this guy in broad daylight and just kept moving, he looked to wasted to follow us. Common Sense is the key.
They are not in the Cancun area, as everyone said they are along the US boarder. We are always offered Cuban Cigars, or some drugs while in the centro shopping. We always say no thank you and have never been hasseled in any way. It's just small time shop owners trying to make a living, not drug cartels. Don't worry, go out, go to the clubs (I recommend you go with TTR, they go to a different club every night)have fun and just stay in the hotel zone and never travel alone....you'll be fine
Trust me when I say as part of the family, whoever.. drug cartels, drunk guys at bars... they are going to have to go through a lot to get to you... We become very protective of our litle family. Jamie
Drug Cartels ARE in Cancun, but us foreigners are not who they care about. Most tourists stay in the Hotel Zone, which we like to refer to as a bubble. You are safe from any violence when going out shopping or to bars. Yes, there is petty crime like pick pocketing; my phone was stolen right off my lap on the bus two weeks ago. Even going Downtown, outside of the Hotel Zone is fine. All us that live here, this is where we live, shop and party. All the areas you or I would go to here are as safe, or safer then your home town. Seems the Ocean is the biggest threat to Tourists...shark attack and drownings...all of which have taken place on the Caribe side, not TTR side. Don't worry, have fun, just use your head!
they are people who beleive that their sole purpose in life is to bug the shit out of you by trying to get you to buy into something that has little if any value just avoid them as they are everywhere you go in mexico (especially public palces like the airport and shopping centers) rob
When you get off the plane and after pushing the famous button, go straight out side, do not even make eye contact with all the people salespersons lining the tunnel to the buses/cabs. They will say there with your travel company, or any thing to lure you in. If you fly with ie Sunquest, look for the Sunquest shirt outside , or USA Transfers if you booked transportation with them (recommend). After checking in at TTR don't go for the timeshare thing either. Check the premier thread here and you'll now why Enjoy
