I really want to take my dog to the beach, and I don't want to just show up and be told he isn't allowed. I was at Playa Tortugas yesterday, and a couple had their small dog with them, and the Lifeguard told them he can be there leashed, but is not allowed in the water. Where can I go that isn't far, (by taxi), and Dezzie will be allowed in the water?
Hi Tori. I take our girls to both Las Perlas(walking, around 2km mark) and Tortugas and have never had a problem, except for some of the local visitors, who seem to think that its worse for my two dogs to swim than THEIR kids to do both number 1 AND number 2 in the very same area, and to throw garbage all around themselves... Since these people have no authority, I dont really pay any attention. None of the guards have ever told me anything, except "que hermosas!"
Really? Cause the guard yesterday stood right by them for a long time and watched everything they did. I puppy sat for a few minutes so they could go in the water together. I was VERY disappointed to see this. Do you take your Dogs maybe during "off hours", whatever they may be? And this was a smaller dog, around the same size as mine, about 17 lbs.
Usually I go to Las Perlas(close enough to walk for us) and I usually never have any problems with the guards/lifeguards, only some of the locals. The good thing with Las Perlas is that in case it seems impossible, one can walk to the left and there you will find a stretch of beach that usually never has any people on it. I take them whenever I have time, may it be 6 am on a Monday or 3 pm on a Sunday Try Las Perlas and take a stroll to the left when you face the ocean. There are big villas/houses there - no hotels. On your right you have the hotels Our dogs are 14 and 16 kilos, so small-medium sized? I havent heard of any laws against it, so as long thats the case - the locals who bitch and moan can bite me, as Im positive there would be laws against doing your toilet-needs on the beach(at least I hope!) Have you been to Las Perlas? If not, try it.
I have always taken my dogs to the beach and I had 4, never had any problems at all. I take them when my daughters swim team trains and no problems at all. I DO clean up after them if they poop
Cunspin, which beach do you go to? rawkus, I have not been to Las Perlas...thanks for the tip and I will check it out tomorrow, without him, and then take him sometime this week. THANK YOU!!!!
All beaches are public they are all federal. The only place I have seen that they require leashes is in Puerto Morelos because so many locals have dogs on the beach and its a national park. I would not take a dog that is not sociable or that does not mind. I have taken my Dogs topretty much all the beaches in Cancun but recently to Las Perlas.
TB, I see pups all the time at Puerto Morelos. And it is a hike without a car but Isla Blanca is a great place for dogs. The beach was kind of crappy the last time I was there, having been eaten by erosion. It was smaller and there were a jillion rocks in the water. But it can be very private.
It's a hit and miss bringing your dog to the beach. I've been fine sometimes and never had problems and on the same beach other times, I've been asked to leave. I think you have to take your chances and be ready to leave or move if you have to. I got into a nasty argument with one beach patrol guy. I don't quite understand how having a 7 lb clean healthy dog on the beach is worse than some stinky boozed up man covered in sand passed out on the beach for several hours....but whateva!
We sometimes go to Playa las Perlas and then walk west with our dogs. Have never had a problem doing that. Playa Nizuc is popular with dogs too. The north end of Puerto Morelos has a lot of decent dog friendly beaches. And our favorite is Isla Blanca, but we don't stay in the area where the beach is washed away, we go south or north from there. Only thing is if you go too far north the drug runners will chase you off with machetes, so don't push your luck trying to walk north for a long way.
