    >Be interesting to know how many of those were killed as a result of faction infighting rather than as a result of any coalition military operations.

Does it matter? All deaths are attributable to the big mistake.

Well it kind of does in this particular debate, when you attempt to associate the coalition invasion with Iraqui casualty figures. This kind of faction infighting has been going on for centuries and even happened under good old Saddam. It's nothing new.

    Wrong.

One of the many reasons Bush gave for the invasion (when the WMD's couldn't be found, etc) was that the USA was creating a free, democratic Iraq.

Most people in Iraq are now worse off than they were under Saddam. Under Saddam women could get an university education, and Christians lived in peace with Muslims.

That is certainly not the case now.

Hey Fletch, have you popped down to the recruitment centre yet to ask about your medical waiver?

It's not wrong Drew, and you know it.

Are you saying that the different factions in Iraq never fought before under Saddam, or before him?

if Im going into the military, im going to FIGHT.....which means use weapons and join the soldiers in Iraq.....With Asthma, you cannot do that, you can work at other stations around the world (Korea, North Carolina...etc) and have little to no actual physical activity. So to answer your question, yes I did visit the local recruitment center thanks.

Also, you must be brain dead to think Iraqi's were much better off when Saddam was still in power....that may be the the most asinine thing I have ever heard

I take serious issue with this. Contrary to what Fox News and the far right say, "liberal" is not a dirty word. Just because I'm a liberal doesn't mean that I don't have morals or that I'm some kind of tree-hugging hippie. I'm a liberal first and foremost because I believe that we should do everything we can to help our fellow man, but I also believe that there is a limit to what that help should entail. There should always be some kind of accountability factor in every social program that we have.

Second, I firmly believe in and individualistic model of the world in which man or woman should be left to do whatever they want within the constraints of the law going back to the idea of a social contract within society. Along these lines, I believe that the government should not legislate morality. These so-called moral issues pushed by conservatives should be left to individuals and families, not the government. When its all said and done, let God make the judgement about the choices that people make in their lives in view of the social issues that the right constantly trumpets. Its not for us as humans to be the judge of others.

On to Iraq. It's one thing to debate the merits of the invasion endlessly. History will be the true judge of the United States' actions in recent years. I believe that we all (Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, etc) need to come together and focus on the present. We should be debating on how to proceed, defining what victory is, and what our exit strategy will eventually be. I don't agree with this war, but we're already in it so we must now deal with it. Even as a Democrat, I don't advocate a complete pull-out on our part. That would be just as disasterous as an escalation of this war. I don't have all the answers, but I do have serious questions about the proposed escalation of this conflict by our government.

Just my rantings for the evening...
