Huh? Sorry fletch, love you and your passion, love and respect it, just not sure who you are questioning here?
It was never a question about whether your homeland has contributed countrymen to any conflict..., It was about whether your country has taken the hit that the United States, Great Britain, Spain, numerous countries in Europe, any country in Africa, Russia, any country in the Middle East, numerous countries in South America, selected countries in Asia have taken. It is a matter of time until your pristine homeland takes a hit. Too close to Australia who is an ally in the War on Terror. I certainly hope that when it does, it doesn't become personal for your sake. I am planning on coming to Cancun in June. I do hope to meet you and speak politics with you at that time. Peacefully of course! Perhaps you will be able so sway my way of thinking.
I'm pretty sure that I quoted him accurately. He is, of course just parroting a right wing talking point that as many Americans were murdered in Detroit as have died in the Iraq War in the last 5 years, implying that no one can really complain about the number of deaths. A talking point that completely ignores the number of Iraqi death, which, strangely enough, the current administration chose not to document. Are you popping in to the recruiting centre tomorrow to check up on the medical waiver availability?
Off topic Hey Ian, how you doing, haven't chatted for a bit, how has your sat nights been lately? Enjoying this debate as much as I am?
Why, thank you As mentioned earlier in the thread one of my good friends here in Mexico is a Vietnam Vet who made it his mission in life to make sure that vets and their familys living south of the border get the help they deserve from the V.A. I've been on many an adventure with him to small towns in Mexico putting up a recruitment stall to try to track down vets who didn't know their rights, and have heard many an interesting story, both from his Vietnam days and his recent efforts. Plus I was a member of the Navy League when I lived in Puerto Vallarta, which is a US Navy aligned Non Profit that does community work. So I know a fair bit about hos the US Armed Forces work, and I'm also pretty good at compiling good Google query strings.
Heh heh. Well, if that happened, I'm pretty sure the PRD would stage a revolution in Mexico City, declare a socilaist state, then Chavez would come to our rescue with some of those cool new missiles that are bolted to those new Russian MIG's he has. Those are ETA attacks - that's internal political stuff, not militant muslims
Drew, change your tag line...Like it or not, disagree or not, Fletch is speaking from his heart and insulting him doesn't contribute to a good argument. He is making good arguments, regardless of whether or not you agree with him. With respect to V.A's again I must say, you should read David Baldacci's book, The Camel Club, yes it is a book of fiction, but as is the case for many books (The DaVinci Code, for starters), it is fact based fiction.
Well the probability has risen since Bush fulfilled Usama's prophecy and went an occupied a predominantly Muslim country for no good reason. How many innocent fathers and mothers have been killed, and how many sons of those have now sworn to make their life's work the destruction of America? Well, I'd rather you had the same concern for ALL families on the planet, both mine, my neighbours and innocents the world over that are being affected by the "war on terror" It's a date! But can you handle getting a ride in the truck with no gun rack and anti-Dubya stickers on the back window?
I actually applaud you for this response B&B. Because for the most part I suppose it's true. The military as well as the administration are so self-absorbed with our domestic affairs that it probably does sometimes we possess "tunnel-vision". But with today's threat, I cannot blame the administration for their "shoot first, ask later" mentality especially when I have seen first hand the methods of gaining intelligence and sadly having seen "second-guessing" those very same intelligence reports and paying dearly later. However we are different in many ways and unfortunately the cost cannot be compared to perhaps 90% of the nations across our planet. When terrorist decide to bring down the CN Tower and perhaps other Canadian landmarks, killing numerous countrymen (as well as foreigners), then you will understand.
