My wife solves the problem by wearing a HUGE hat and HUGE sunglasses. I certainly "hope" that no one in our school district is going to recognize her hooters!!!

Couldn't agree more! I'm a teacher and have both a personal Facebook page as well as a Facebook page for my classroom. Frankly, the classroom Facebook page is the only way I can get 1/2 of my parents to respond to me. The high standards we are held to wouldn't be such a problem if professional athletes, television and music stars, and our elected officials were held to those same standards...and need I remind you that those people get paid WAY more than I'm making as an educator.

The poor judgment in this case was shown by
a) the jerk who felt a need to make an issue of this in the first place

b) the schoolboard that didn't have enough spine or loyalty to its employee to say, "Thank you. We'll handle this matter internally."

I'm a teacher, and I have a Facebook. I like that I can stay in touch with friends when we're too busy to get together, can talk to friends and family all over the place, and can plan events without a million phone calls. I think teachers have as much right to a tool that make our lives easier as everyone else.

Still, even though I use the tightest security controls and never post anything I consider more than a PG, I'm sure that some parent with a vendetta could find something on there to use against me. For some, just the fact I've been to Temptation or that one of my friends tagged me at a pole fitness (key word: fitness) class would be enough to say I'm immoral.

But social media is so prevalent now--and growing more so every day--that we're all going to have to accept the fact that anything we do is open to public display, and some a-hole with an axe to grind could find a way to use it against us.

So, if I really don't want to risk my job, I can't ever go back to TTR. I can't post a picture of myself on vacation in *gasp* a bikini, and I can't have drinks with friends in public places. That's not a life I'm willing to live.

I understand that my students need me to be a positive role model, and I am. But when I come home, I hope to God my life belongs to me.

I agree to an extent.

Spent 15yrs in the classroom, miss teaching parents not so much. While not spelled out in your specific contract, Moral Turpitude is still present in a lot of board policies. Was lucky with my group we had a BASS (Bitch about school stuff) meeting most Fridays at a local happy hour.

Got my first teaching job a week before my 23rd birthday. I limped through the interview because I had twisted my knee on a bucking horse the night before. Went to a conference and set down with some older teachers and ordered a beer. Giving me some crap one asked if I told them I drank during the interview. My reply was "No, but I did tell them I rodeoed".

Not enough info in the story, how many years teaching? Does seem like a sexual discrimination suit might be in the works.

Nah, it was her lack of judgment that led to this. Should have never put that photo on FB. He didn't post it, she did. Probably why he didn't get fired, if she was so confident that she wouldn't get into trouble, she should have left it up. But alas, she knew it wasn't the right thing to do, hence the fallout. Now whether she deserved to fired? that's a different story. On the other hand, looks like she has a great a$$!
