Gotta go back seven, as I count it! Keep reading, Luckie, we'll try to stick to the point! This, being a forum, we drift around a bit, and you've got take what we say with a grain of salt, anyway; but, put enough posts together and you can get a pretty good picture of what it's like for those who work here, and for those who try to make a living here (not always the same thing!). A lot of the people who work here never post. If you decide to come give it a try, be sure you have plenty of cash to back you up, and a ticket to get back, as it can take far longer to get going than you might suppose. I've been at it since July and I'm just beginning to get going. It could take even longer, for others; then, of course, there are those who just always seem to land on their feet, no matter what! (Lucky buggers....) V.
I think that's one of the great about this board: You never know where a thread will take you. It's an indication of active and ambitious minds. Sometimes it's also an indication that a thread has run its course and we're just having fun. V, start hammering those stakes into the ground. I'll bring the matches. And RG, I think the latest pirate count is low, what with the stuff going on with the Somalis. I think the Church has to recalculate that inverse relationship. We're not in Kansas anymore. (Do ya think anybody knows what we're talkin' about?)
Speak for yourself there baby! I would more readily describe my mind as tired and my humor as irreverent. It can be our secret. For the record, I'm trying to indoctrinate my kid and get her to join FSM. Can't let her grow up a godless heathen.
Social and Economic Development of Mexico On this thread we've discussed the varied ways to approach working in Cancun. Opportunities to work for someone else, at a "job", are limited: starting your own business, or working as a self-employed person, with permission of the government, opens up many more possibilities. Shifting your thinking from taking a job, to training others to do what you can do, is one such possibility. If there are skills you could teach Mexican citizens that would enhance their personal/professional development and with it, the social or economic development of Mexico, you could consider getting permission to work independently, offering specialized training to Mexican citizens, for a fee. "Training" is big business in many places, including Mexico. If you have qualifications for it that would distinguish you, this is another approach to working in Cancun that may be worth considering. It is the path that I, myself, have followed, in getting permission to work here.
