Alligator Gar in Sam Rayburn Lake

    Gar are very common in the waters around here. People shoot them with bow & arrows that have lines attached to them.

    Most Americans do not eat gar. Some Asian cultures will eat gar and carp.

    Being married into a Vietnamese family I get to visit the many local ethnic markets more frequently and come to think of it I think I recall seeing carp and small gar crowded tightly into large aquariums awaiting butchering.
