What's the best (from both a safety and price point) to get from the airport to PDC? Should I book something online ahead of time (any suggestions?) or can I just flag a taxi or something down when I get there? I'm due in at around noon. Going home, the flight is around 10am on a Monday, so I guess we'd need to leave around 6:30-7:00am, right? What about getting back to the airport from PDC? I booked everything on my own, so there is no travel agent to call to provide the transfers. It'll be 2 adults, 2 children, with luggage. I looked at the site recommended on blogcancun http://www.entertainment-plus.net/tour_tpt_pdc.cfm - $120 round trip for private/direct van. Nor sure why they are so much cheaper, when it seems many others I saw are $45pp round trip for a shared ride. Any other suggestions?
With safety and price a major concern, I would say that it depends on where you are staying. If you booked a hotel that is in Playa del Carmen proper, then the bus is a fine option going both ways. Once you get to the Playa bus station, you can either walk to your hotel, if it's relatively close to the bus station (and a whole slew of them are) or you can catch a taxi from there (which is pretty cheap even going to the north end of Playa). If you are in Playacar or staying at a resort that is off of highway 307, then I would say go with private transport so you get dropped off at the door of your resort as most of them are a good hike from the highway and align the beach. If you plan on doing more than lounging around at the resort, you might want to consider investing in Laura's mapguide of Playa and/or Riviera Maya. Excellent resource to have and worth 5 times what they charge for it!!! I think in all of the years that I have been on various cancun websites, I have yet to see one bad post about the mapguides.... We are staying at the Rui Tequila. It'll be 2 adults, 2 children with a week's worth of luggage. I don't think a public bus is a viable option. That being that case, what would you suggest as the best options?
We have used his service the last three years and its been great every year. Get outside the airport and there will be a guy with a board with your name on it and he radios a vehicle and off you go! No waiting for a van that they stuff you into like sardines from the travel agencys. You also save some cash. I did a lot of surfing for the best cost and they are it. Since you are staying at the RIU, you aren't walking distance from Playa, your off of 307 and I'd personally recommend private transport. I've dealt with several different private transport companies in the past 10 or so years and the only one that has NEVER, EVER, left me stranded was Entertainment Plus. That's who I send all of my friends, co-workers, etc. to for transportation needs in the area. To date, none of them have been left stranded either. Extremely professional outfit that simply can't be beat. Michelle
I LOVE ENTERTAINMENT PLUS!!! Under some difficult circumstances (lost luggage delayed my in-laws in customs for nearly 2 hours AND THEY WAITED!) they came thru for us!! FIVE STARS!!!
