EXACTLY... a 95% fail rate and yet we still fund it. Still, it's nice to know that if every other career choice doesn't work out there is Walmart and the TSA to fall back on!
Funny Story..My dad was recently retired in 2003 when the TSA came be. He retired as Army Military Police(21 years)had conducted hundreds of counter terrorism maneuvers, trained and handled bomb and drug dogs and couldn't get past the first interview.
The TSA can be such a joke. I travel a lot for work also and they vary widely from airport to airport on what they do. Very poor ability to maintain policies and procedures across the board. And that was pre-government shut down Just like Nathan and Sara said above, they make stupid decisions when it should be a no brainer. A retired MP of 21 years should have No problems getting a job as a TSA agent. That is ridiculous!
Just talked to a friend on his way through Detroit (DTW) right now headed south to catch a cruise in Florida. He told me they just walked through... No taking off jackets, belts, no bins for keys, wallet, etc. He said TSA was just basically shoving people through and really didn't want to deal with anything. It's the easiest he has ever had it. Which is kind of scary. I guess their motivation is probably low at this point. But you are right that it can vary widely from airport to airport.
In Seattle they intentionally dont open any lines so it gets busier. When its too busy they're allowed to let people go through scanners without taking shoes/coats off. Its the dumbest thing ever.
