Was checking prices for April and sites keep giving me quotes for Air Trans. But didn't they go out of business last year?

Flew AirTran (www.airtran.com) from Chicago Midway (MDW) to NY LGA and back Thursday and Friday last week. I think the news of their demise is greatly exaggerated.

Remember that couple last year that she was a stewardess and the company she worked for and that they were flying went belly up the day before their trip. Does anyone remember who I am talking about? Or what company that was?

AHA! Now I know why you're having a bit of confusion ... I do remember that post now - she worked for ATA - which is an acronym for American Trans Air - they were a charter co. that broke into the scheduled airline biz and ran pretty hefty schedules from Chicago Midway, Indianapolis, LaGuardia and a few other airports to points in the Carribean, Hawaii and other spots.

The fuel thing put them out of business - that and the majority of their business was with the Military Transport Command flying troop charters into Iraq and they lost their gov't contract just shortly before they filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations.

I can see why you confused that with AirTran ...

I used to say that ATA stood for A Terrible Airline. Man, they sucked.

One of my buddies was a 757 captain for them - he said it was a miserable existence. He now is a captain for NetJets flying celebrities and fat cats around in Gulfstream 4s ...

The first year we went to TTR we flew ATA from Midway to Cancun. They were running charters for Apple Vacations at the time. I also flew ATA thru Funjet Vacations numerus times in the eighties when I vacationed in Florida. No problems then but as Stew said they don't exist anymore
