I clicked on "Shared Airport Transfers"
I see now that you are recommending the Private transfer,

I will go ahead and book with USA, better safe than sorry,

Looks like the cheapest shared option is $34 rt for 2 people, probably worth the extra $21 to get to the Hotel non-stop.

We did the shared on the first trip and TTR was the last stop. It was kinda cool to get the drive down the hotel zone and see everything. On the way back we were the last ones picked up and straight to the airport. Since then we have always done private...nice to just get to the resort, get room and start vacation.

Thanks for the information on the private vs. shared transfers and we are torn as to which one to book. One nice thing about sharing the ride is that you have an opportunity to meet new people and spread out the tip money a little for the driver. Don't mean to sound too cheap, but when you are transferred privately, we would assume there is a little bit more pressure to tip more generously, and perhaps the driver deserves this for the trouble and lack of passengers.

We're curious about the average number of stops made between the airport and TTR. It is impossible to know how many people will likely be in the vehicle, but if it is full, how many stops (and how much additional time) would you experience? Any input would be great.

Thanks, again, for the thread and we look forward to your responses.

In this day & age everyone is looking for a deal, me included. However looking for a shared transfer to save money is not a good idea in my book.(Sharing the tip? come on  ). The first year we went, part of our package was a shared transfer. We waited @ the airport for an extra 45 min. for the 11 passenger van to fill up. 4 stops & almost 3 hrs later we arrived @ TTR. Never again!

For the Oct. travelers, Brant's ( USA Transfer ) has a special RT fare for $49

The more time I spend in the van, the less time I spend @ the Sexy pool :p

Thanks for the tip on the October special on private transfers on USA for $49 RT, NTBABY. That sounds like a winner to us, so we're going to go ahead and book this.

One quick comment regarding our Desire to share the tip on a shared transfer, which you seemed to find curious. Not sure about you, but we typically tip around $10 each way ($20 total) when being transferred in a group. Assuming the driver is not paid more for transferring one couple as opposed to several (up to 5), we were concerned that we would need to make up that difference (up to $40 each way) on the tip, in fairness to the driver. Since we've never used private transfers, we simply did not know what was considered appropriate, that's why we asked.

Great input on this topic and we appreciate all the posts.

    Tipping

$10 is a seriously generous tip for shared.

$40 tip would be ludicrous.

    This is Mexico after all.

It's a 15 minute drive, if your worried about the drivers earning potential, he can make up for it in the number of trips he make to the airport.

Just booked a private transfer with USA Transfers and they could not have been nicer. If their driving service is as good as the online communications they provide, this should be a great experience. Thanks for the tip on using them!
