All seems to have gone quiet on the fidecomiso front - I can't seem to find out any new info. Wouldn't it be great if they did get rid of it! Where was the condo V and how much were they asking? Was it a great deal? On a side note - a friend was telling me a house was for sale next to her. A little 2 bedroom in a very average area, no land (as always), 750,000 mxn. We randomly picked a place in the states (Dallas) and searched on Century 21 to see what we could get for 65 - 100k US. Lets just say that you get a lot more bang for your buck there it seems! and a lot more land with your house!
Mat, it wasn't a particularly good deal, it was just well priced for Cancun. It went fast, at 2.7 million, for 3 bedrooms, two baths, with a view we liked. For those who would consider living in the U.S., they're practically giving away homes. My wife is there, at the moment and, on a lark, looked at what was for sale. The value on offer has caused her to totally lose interest in buying here. Problem for me is that I don't really care to live in the U.S. For those who might like to know what homes are selling for in the U.S., on average, there's Sperling's Best Places website, which allows you to compare cities in the U.S. on a wide range of factors, including home prices (updated through June). My wife asked everybody she spent time with what they were spending, out of pocket, for living expenses, and it seems it was less than here, across the board, as improbable as that sounds. But, two years ago her parents were spending $1,600 per month for everything, including health insurance, with both house and car paid for and no debts (middle class, Florida, Medicare eligible). That's less than we spend here on the same things, and a lot less if you include the rent we pay. Cancun has not proven to be a cheap environment for us, but I have no personal experience with the ordinary cost of living, day to day, in the U.S., and that's been the case since 1992. __________________________
