I will say the last 3 years has soured me on the press overall. Without going into specifics I find that they aren’t a trustworthy entity anymore and I find that incredibly sad. Way to many opinions and not enough reporting. I believe it will take a long time for them to earn the public’s trust. And that’s my free opinion.
A couple of years back... whenever it was that The Donald had that beef with Boeing over the price charged for each new Air Force One. I think it was $2 Billion per aircraft. He did what The Donald does, and now we pay ~$1 B for each such aircraft. Now for my point. Regardless of your position on whether or not he should or should not have done it, the way he did it, how he did it or whatever... The Donald himself got on TV, explained his position, what he was doing and, what his desired outcome was going to be, why he thought it was right, etc. So, picture in your mind, you're there in TV land, watching the President talk to the press, while they're asking him questions, and basically explaining the whole thing. I admit, my own feeling was... I guess Boing has been ripping us off for years," which was perhaps uncharitable, I get it. But... I did have an opinion. Then... the news outlet, which was not either CNN OR Fox News, cut away to a panel of three talking heads, who proceeded, for almost a full 30 minutes, to tell me what it was that I HAD JUST HEARD FOR MYSELF. Um... I just heard it, literally before you three started talking, and all you are doing is offering up your own opinion as to what it was "he had said." Note: Not their opinion on the effect, coming from some financial wizard about cutting that Billion out of Boeing's budged and sticking it back into the Federal Treasury... Not an opinion on the effects of the loss of those funds on Boeing itself or Boeing 's employees and their families, Not even the effect of having a Billion bucks back in the U.S. budget. Nope: Their opinion on what he said. Right after he said it. I checked again an hour later and there was another show, this time 4 talking heads, doing the exact same, to my mind worthless, thing.
Would be nice to keep the political posts off Cancuncare...I always looked at this forum as one place where I could avoid it.
I have never watched CNN ever, so pretty hard to get an opinion on them. To the question. "However, do we agree (what a concept) that, if a subject doesn't have a political connection or nexus, that they will dispassionately and simply... tell the truth?" That's a difficult question. Every network has their brand, and their prime time host are deeply invested to keep their job, and follow the company line. I'm pretty cynical when it comes to these reporters. I really don't know if they believe so much as what they say, as they do what they can for ratings, and job security. It's kind of like Warren Buffet telling anyone that will listen to him, that he thinks our tax code should be changed, and he is amazed that he pays less in taxes than his secretary. I'm not sure he really means that. He is under no obligation to pay the small amount that he does, he could simply pay more, not use deductions, countless options... So when he says that, do I find him "truthful?" I do not. I think he enjoys the compliments he gets for his "unpopular position." As for what I get from the news. I would definitely fall on the right side of the scale. Not so much a republican anymore, because really, most everyone in office is there just to stay in office. That being said I pretty much only watch or listen to left or very left leaning news. I like to see what the other side is doing I guess. What I normally find, that I spend 95% percent of the time thinking, that was a hypocritical statement, why didn't you say that when so and so had that position. I'm not deaf to the fact that the right does it too, by the way, I just listen to the left more. Fuels my fire... I really find the only truly honest reporting from a semi outside source from someone like John Stonsel, or others like him that simply report facts. Probably why he isn't on Prime Time anymore, as that just doesn't move the passion meter like the ones we are subjected to.
We get our news from PornHub. NOT to sound sexist but the female anchors seem to transmit a more interesting side of the story.
Moving political threads to the Free For All section. Let's keep this section Temptation/Cancun related please
Here's my thought on that. Generally, I'd agree with you, I visit CCC to get back into "that mode," fun, silly, sexy, a bit debauched, considering the best way to have on less clothes on the lady, how to get 27 naked ladies into a single patio hot tub... like that. But, this isn't a "general" sort of time. I think we can all agree on that, eh? Next, I find that the people who I've met at TTR & DRM are usually very bright, successful, above-average in competence and opinion, people. A pretty good slice of those people frequent this board. When I'm at TTR, sometimes I'll hang out at the Member's Deck VIP Bar for hours, kicking the can around for that time period with someone like Restling or MandEOntario, Steve, Cortus, or whoever, talking about business, being a business owner, political things and perspectives on them, societal things and so forth -- in addition to commenting on exactly how freakin' sexy so-&-so looks in the whatever thong. In other words, things precisely the same as these types of threads. So... for me anyway, it works to go to a group of people whose opinion I value, even if I may not agree with it. And that place is right here. I rather expect that, once the pandemic scare is fading away into the rearview mirror, these types of dicussions will be doing the same thing
John...I did not bring up politics per se but did mention credible news sources which as we all know is code for politics! I also mentioned “the virus” and Santa Claus. Next I will mention, religion! Oh, and then rock and roll music that our grandparents warned us about, and then guns, and violence, and the sex. I will use them all......haaaaaahaaaaaahaaaa... my mastermind plan of mind control
