A couple of snippets of gossip - Security and Ents Staff changes

One trip to Playa del Carmen, the police and military presence was just crazy - complete with military aircraft constantly patrolling the coast. We asked a bartender what the deal was...there was a PGA golf tournament going on just down the road from the hotel and Mexico's president was attending.

 

We where there the exact same time! Our plane was trying to land when Bush was landing so they tried to divert us to Cozumel, only our plane didn't have enough fuel for it!!

 

On one of our trips to TTR we were staying by the quiet pool on the top floor, and when we came down the stairs there were armed guards outside one the rooms.
Turns out the boxer Juan Manuel Marquez was staying there! The next day he and Manny Pacquiao had their pre match weigh in on the beach at TTR. We were in Margarita's having lunch, and the entire staff disappeared to catch glimpse of their hero!

I talked with Amy about the job, they are adamant that it MUST be a girl on the team.
Too bad, I was looking forward to that job too.

 

That was what we found so interesting about going shopping. Grab the bus going left out of the entrance and it's very tourista. Grab the bus going right (we did so on purpose) and end up shopping with the locals (at about 1/4 of the gift shop prices) and seeing dozens of police/soldiers. It's just part of the experience.

P.S. We would welcome more consistency from TTR security. We never knew when we could get naked, or shouldn't.

the more important the VIP the bigger the response and more armed guards, every time i've been too cancun , i've seen the patrols. but it's the same even in D.C. just more of them are in suits LOL, and they close off roads and such for all the dam convoys and such.

 

Its always easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission.

A couple of summers ago the Mexican Navy had anchored 4-5 large warships
straight out from TTR beach. They were there for several days...kinda got used to them being there. Then they fired up their seemingly very old diesel engines...lol the smoke was thick as fog. And in an hour or so they had vanished out to sea.

Kinda cool to see (talk about security)
