Great report rob. I must say I was shocked when I saw a trip report from you on Desire given your funny post history on oscars, frank & beans, sausage, etc. but you explain well what aspects made Desire appeal to you over TTR.

Although having never met I have thought we have similar philosophies on things but I can't bring myself to get over the exposed frank & beans. I think I would be the one with the suit on also but would likely eventually fall to the peer pressure. Some day we will give it a go but for now we hope to relive our TTR fun in April/may (as our previous trip was the best week of our life). I don't think anyone could lose with either option.

Desire Riviera Maya opened in 2003 and had a major renovation in 2005/6 just after Hurricane Wilma

BBG/TTR was built in 1987 and had a major renovation in 2001

We went to TTR in October last year for few nights before moving to Desire Pearl for 5 nights (first time in both resorts). We liked TTR, but we absolutely LOVED Desire Pearl.
It's a great resorts for couples of all ages (we are on a younger side).
We bought into premier membership timeshare thing purely because of great discounts offered at Desire resorts and we can see ourselves coming back if not every year, every two years... (a long way to travel)
We have already booked Desire Rivera Maya for 6 nights Oct/Nov 2013. Can't wait!

P.S. My hubby was also wearing his boardshorts most of the time. Nudity isn't compulsory

again I think the bigger shock for me was the ratio of men/women nude. I am being 100 percent honest when I say it was like 99% of the men nude at the pool and like 50% women nude (most women did have their tops off though)

could have just been the week we were there - wayne would know more about this ratio - but I am curious if this is correct

Yep, it definitely depends on the week that you are there as to the exposed skin factor. Most weeks it is usually 99% both guys and girls nude at the beach and pool and almost 100% at all times in the big rooftop jacuzzi.

(aside to Rob, as you will find out in about 17 weeks )

That surprises me a bit. I would have thought the guys being naked would be a lot lower then the women. Maybe at 60%. Seeing the people nude wouldn't bug me but doubt very much I would be walking around nude. Like the wife says when my shorts come off in the pool it usually means one thing. Bed time is close. Lol

 

Having made 4 trips to Desire (mainly with the YNOT group) I can tell you my "naked" experience.

When sunbathing around the pool in the chairs and beds, I am usually naked, but anytime I left my chair/bed, I put my shorts on. That includes volleyball in the pool. I did get a few light-hearted comments but all were made in fun. I was one of probably 3-4 guys who kept their shorts on when not sunbathing.

When at the hot tub, naked is the norm. There may have been one or two women with their bottoms on but that was about it....

When they say you don't really notice the nudity after the first day, surprisingly, it is true.

We've been to Desire once and Wayne's comments were exactly the case, but we were lucky to end up going the same week as a good group. Both of us were naked all times at the beach, pool and hot tub. Strolling around, between the room and pool for example, we'd usually wear a cover/shorts or towel, but otherwise we were completely bare. Who wants tan lines anyways?

Dinner, of course, was classy - women usually wearing something a little more provacative. Some see-through, which sweetened the appetite.

There was never any animosity towards anyone who wore bottoms at the pool. It's a clothing optional resort, so you have a choice
