We land at 8am tomorrow and departure is around 3:45. So I figure we have from 9-2 to do stuff....not really sure what.
Only choose direct from uk, but last year there were no flights at this time of year from Glasgow. Flying from Manchester, 5 ish hour drive... Ok on way out, stayed over night before... Flying in at 8am after a 10 hour flight then driving 5 hours, not fun! Thank goodness this year only 2ish hours from Glasgow!
We picked a 9 hour layover in Toronto last year to make our trip 8 days instead of 7 (not many options out of our small airport). We didn't want to leave the airport in case something happened and we missed our flight to Cancun. It was a really long day, but totally worth the extra one at TTR. We watched lots of Netflix!
The layover that we picked on our flight down in October was the best one we have done yet. Coming from Eugene, Oregon we usually don't get there until very late in the evening if we fly all in one day. So we look at cheap redeye flights. But then we are so tired after travelling. We found the perfect solution last trip. We booked an overnight layover in Houston and just got a room close to the airport to sleep through the night rather than hanging out in the Airport for hours. I pricelined a room for like $50 that had a shuttle to and from the airport, and free breakfast. We arrived to Houston at 10pm (after one connection in San Fran). And didn't have to fly out until 11am the next morning. Then it was just a quick 2 hour flight. By 1pm we were there and it felt like we did hardly any travel the day of arrival. $50 was well worth it for avoiding a long airport layover and getting good rest. We made the best of our extra vacation night and even went out for drinks at a bar near our Houston hotel (since we didn't have to be to the Airport super early in the morning). And because it was the middle of the night and the shuttle driver didn't have much to do.....he acted as our cab driver and took us to and from the bar. That guy was awesome. We tipped him big!
