watch when crossing the street. cars and buses move at lightening speed and dont slow down just cause you're there. oh and mind the curbs...they're doozies...
Arrange for cab fare BEFORE getting into cab. Do not believe the driver when he tells you he has no change - his pockets are full.
Watch the change you get back from purchasing things. With the exchange rates it can get tricky keeping up with the change you are owed back..
if you can, go on the lagoon / jungle boat tour in the little mini speed boats ... great fun, and you can go snorkelling at the coral to see the funky fishes - money well spent in my books
don't get in any of the taxis which have hookers hanging out of them (we got propositioned several times on the walks home) , you will probably get in trouble with the local law enforcement.
Catch the bus on the right side of the road at 4am or once you realise it you'll end up downtown looking for a taxi driver who can speak some english & can get you back to your hotel (try to get one that doesn't get pulled over by the cops too).
And note there may be mroe than one hotel called the same as yours... For example..There is more than one Oasis hotel....Make sure you know which one you are at...If LOST look at your bracelet!
Added to what dream said, do NOT cut off your hotel braclet, they will charge you a LOT to replace it, sometimes as much as a few hundred dollars, so keep it on!
