We just returned the end of August and I'm a little confused regarding the food discussion .... we ordered the Surf and Turf (Bellavista) - and Coconut Shrimp (the Wok) and requested the waiter bring an extra 6 shrimp which they did and have each time I make the request. Additionally, you can order anything you want, but if you order off the Premier Member's selection - you pay the amount listed on the menu, but still have a choice to upgrade at the time. This only makes sense as PM pay a lump sum to receive specific upgrades for each visit - not something I would spend my money on; but, others have, and, in my opinion should receive upgrades while at resort as a result!! We frequent Temptation twice a year and have never entertained purchasing a PM as it just doesn't bother us to be a regular member. Thanks for letting me chime in here - just offering our experience and opinion. :aktion069: C
I tend to agree w/ you - the resort could change up the menu as the dinner food at the main buffet will be utilized later for next day lunch (just saying :icon_confused less than desirable ... lol. This is why we will go to Margaritas to do lunch ... cooked fresh and provides a little variety. Additionally, the perk at being PM's (in my opinion) is the pool-side service and top-shelf liquor ... we have received cheap rates and sometimes even cheaper than what PM's receive depending on the season etc., not always, but has occurred. Yes, the group thing. It's great, but can potentially hinder those from meeting new and interesting people. We do have a group that we return with once a year, but we are very independent and allow for the social meet and greet that is important to have a great time while at TTR - always room for new friends that are like-minded. Not all groups/individuals have the same mentality and are very closed-off - which is fine, but there's no need to be snobbish and rude about it - sorry if this was your experience and or your observation while there bc it can make for a fractured experience which isn't fun and not at all keeping w/ the theme of Temptation. Hoping your next visit will be better in this regard - thanks for sharing. Take care guys!! C
I couldn't care less about "top-shelf" drinks. I have an iron stomach, and my wife and I both prefer beer to liquor. That being said, if I'm in any way made to feel like a second-class citizen, I'll take my business back down the road 20mi.
We made our first trip in June of this year, and had a blast! Definitely agree with the part about the drinking glasses...we brought our own mugs for the pool, but used the resorts when we were at Paty-O's. Next time we'll take our mugs there too. We found the CCC members to be really sociable and friendly, and made some good friends there. Maybe we were lucky...but the bottom line is that the atmosphere, the price and the people are what makes Temptation worthwhile. Those benefits outweigh the cheap liquor, plastic cups and limited menus. We also noticed the security in the afternoons. They were a bit draconian at times... and wouldn't let people do body shots or AIWC. I got yelled at for licking AIWC off my own wife in the sexy pool. The TTR regulars said it used to me much more relaxed. Anyone else have that experience?
I think security late in the afternoon is just worried about a rape mentality. Last trip Melissa was getting drug away by drunk single guys. By the time I got to her in about 20 feet her bikini bottoms were below the knees. I'm sure they have seen plenty and are not there to ruin your fun as much as to protect people.
We just got back too, not sure that Glenn and I got to meet you guys. We met so many cancuncare peeps. We had a blast even with the rain and well I personally love the new and the old music. I spent most nights dancing my ass off. The premier shit doesn't bother me at all. Glenn spent just as much time in their section hanging with friends. I prefer the bartenders away from the premier sectiion as they have way more personality. Yes their we're some clicky groups. Here's how I see that, if I was to show up with 12 of my friends I would not feel the need to mingle as much. We did come in with 5 others but our personalities allow us to mingled and we all had a great time. I have a blest meeting others and partying at the sexy pool bar. Glenn roams, wants to know what everyone does and is so personable. We brought our party attitudes and met probably over 150 people. Not everyone is like us. I remember some of our first trips, We were shy and wondered how everyone seemed to know each other. Now we know they we're cancuncare. Orange bracelet always say hi.
This Premiere thing is going to be debated forever. Like yourselves, we decided that the extra cost to eat lobster, have free wifi, and sit in a lonely hot tub above the shitters is just not worth it. So, that's that. Yes, the timeshare hounding can be annoying at the very start of your trip.. but all it takes is a "no". It's my vacation and I refuse to allow someone to eat away at my precious time there. As far as the perks, personally I don't see them as any big deal. Like with just about anything in Cancun, you grease someone's palm and stuff happens. But I don't understand the members only hot tub, beach section, etc. that separate you from the majority of the party people. Top shelf liquor? I guess I just don't have as much of a sophisticated palate as other people.. and I was a bartender in a snooty scotch and cigar bar for years. I'm convinced liquor brands are nothing more than a status symbol. (As far as tequila goes, Patron is piss IMO.) But, the comments about the rest of the resort also make me scratch my head. Why put a roof over Patyos when most of the year it's clear? The attraction of the place is that it *is* an open bar. Nice Shoes could use a facelift, sure. But who wants to be inside? We're in the Caribbean. Cancun along with Miami, LA, Vegas, and New York have some of the most exclusive and exciting night clubs in North America. If clubbing is what you're after, why not go and check out a spectacle? It's like going to Vegas, staying in the Travelodge and complaining that they have nothing more than a slot machine in the lobby when every other hotel has full blown casinos. The lunch buffet.. the way I see it, if you're eating at the lunch buffet and getting tired of it over a one week period, you're eating lunch at the buffet way too much. (How many different selections do you normally go through in a one week period of lunches at home? For me, it's typically the same deli meat sandwich, apple, and yogurt for a solid week at a time, the only thing that varies is the flavour of yogurt and the type of deli meat.) Not sure what more of a selection could be offered that people wouldn't tire of it so easily. There's always Margarita's 30 ft away. Drinking glasses? Yeah, fine.. Bubba mug it. Music. Again.. a topic that will never, ever satisfy everyone. Ever. I do think they make an effort. The thing is, it's designed to appeal to the masses. Therefore, as far as classic rock, country, etc.. it's gonna be Sweet Home Alabama, Sweet Child O Mine, and Cadillac Ranch every god forsaken night until the end of time. I like a lot of indie music.. but you're not gonna hear me complain that they're not accommodating me because they don't play any Sean O'connell. We will be doomed to hear "Sexy and I Know It" ad nauseum forever and ever, amen. Wifi.. I come to Cancun to totally disconnect from real life. If my house burns down, what good is it knowing that it burned down? It burned down and that's it. Whether I go home now or later.. it will still be burned down. I remember being at TTR and some friends of ours learned that their Escalade was stolen from the parking lot at the airport in their home city. It seemed to put a damper on their vacation. I'd rather not know things like that until I get home. But, again.. wifi's available to those who want it. You don't need to be a premier member.. you just have to pay for it. Yes, the dumpy motel in my home town will offer it for free, but the classy Fairmont that already charges $500/nt will charge extra for it. So, it's not like it's available everywhere. The slippery tiles.. I'll agree on this one. Especially with all the ladies in their ankle-breaker-heels. Seems like an easy fix. Other things that seem like easy fixes are the maniac drivers.. but whatever. I seem to have an understanding with the rent-a-cops. I don't mess with them and they don't mess with me. I'd much rather have their presence known at 4pm when Prince Harry and all the other bachelor party crew start acting up than not have them be there when things go south. The cliquey crowds: we have also run into this. But we have run into this at home too. I'm glad we run into people like this because I know with no uncertain terms that I shouldn't be wasting my time with them and go on the hunt for more accommodating folk. They're only gonna bring my experience down and I thank them for being so stand-offish. Saves me the time. I really hope that didn't sound like an attack.. I'm just trying to bring a different perspective to the matter. It truly is the people that make the place so desirable, and I'm positive we could have a great discussion about this over a margarita if we were to meet at the resort. But, I wouldn't get hung up on the small things. Cheers.
100% agree with the slippery floors comment. I really think TTR should hire a safety consultant to look at their situation. There were way too many steps, half-steps, and ramps all over the resort and very few hand rails. Just getting into Pattyo from the rear can be a real challenge. Add a bit of rain and a really bad potential exists. My wife finally sold her Manual transmission 370z. The pain from last Dec fall at TTR made it a real chore to drive. Being a "cool" 7th grade teacher just wasn't worth the discomfort !!!
Glad to hear you had a... hm, I'm not sure what kind of time you had. Well hopefully it was good. I think most of the people coming here are fans of the resort and know what to expect, good and not so good. There's really nothing horrible about the place. Those that come here to do research might think otherwise from reviews like this which is sad, the place is awesome. The comments about the food always surprise me as it's really not bad, not sure where people dine in their home towns. The premier stuff and the timeshare people will bother you if you let it, or you could just figure that they need to make money somehow and be thankful they do snag a few premier memberships each week so the prices stay low. I can't begin to imagine how stuffy Paty'o's would get if covered and no A/C, ugh. Glasses, bring your own, we have mugs for the pool and ones that light up for Paty'o's. Security. We have a single friend who was with us in January. Just yesterday she was saying how safe she felt at the resort being single, more so than any place else. I'm willing to put up with them if it makes it safer. Floors are slippery in tropical climes when it's wet. I could care less about the quality of wifi while on vacation. If you need to get in touch with someone the phones work and if you're doing work you really need to take a step back, chances are you're not curing cancer. Music is as expected and fun. Hell I'm 50 and grew up on punk rock and I like most of it. Oh and lastly, if you know a door doesn't work use the other one lol How about posting another review with a positive tone, just for some balance? If you're going back it sounds like you must have had fun, didn't you?
Pros and Cons... Cons No visit to Temptation is long enough (except for your liver)... Booze cruise wasn't everyday... They run out of mint for Mojitos... Bartenders and guests making you forget to apply more sunblock to your shoulders and foreheads... Getting up at 530 to get a seat at the sexy pool Getting on the plane thinking you should have done that... Getting on the plane thinking you shouldn't have done that... Getting on the plane thinking you hope there is no pictures of what you shouldn't have done... Pros Meeting amazing new people! Having a great time pretty much everywhere on the resort! Looking forward to going again! If you can remember it and it was good, it must have been great! If you can't remember it, it must have been amazing! If you can remember it and it was amazing or not, you still can't wait to book your next trip! I think all places have pros and cons but it all depends on how you look at it and take it. We'll be looking forward to going this Halloween with the Hotties and Hellraiser crew!
