This will be our 5th trip to TTR and we have decided it is time to do a tour! I intend to book through this site, but want advice regarding Tulum versus Chichen Itza (maybe Coba too?) All of the sites look amazing. We would probably go private. Seems to me the downside of doing Cichen Itza is that it is an entire day away from TTR! Thoughts?
We would highly recommend Chichen Itza. We have been to both and we booked a private trip from USA Transfer and it was totally amazing. We went with another couple so the price was better.
I know the thought of the long day gone is kind of a turn off but you won't feel that way when you come back. It is so amazing. I would say take some good footwear and a hat
we did it 2 years ago ,, (private) at around the 6 person mark , the price was the same as group . was a lot better doing private , no kids on the bus/van,, private beer breaks
We have done both. Tulum was a great few hrs, it takes maybe 1 hr to walk the whole site. There is a great beach to do at the end.It cost us $11 US P/P for entrance and a private tour guide. Add a cenote visit and you have will have a nice day away from the resort. Chichen Itza is much bigger, was a few years ago, but i think it was maybe 2.5 hrs to check out the whole site. There was tons of stuff to see compared to Tulum, but super crowded. I wouldn't even consider doing this site with a tour, wouldn't do it justice. I cant remember what we paid for a private tour, but i do remember thinking it wasn't much more then the resort tour. It was somewhere around 100.00 US P/P. The line up was 1000's deep ( in Jan so not even busy season). We got front of the line, the tour groups went right, so we went left. It was almost like we had the place to ourselves! Lots of Vendors hawking wares tho. They are both worth doing. Depends on how long you want to be gone.
We went to Chichen Itza on a tour bus and if I had to do it all over again I'd have arranged a private tour. Not that we didn't have a good time the bus had quite a few kids on board that as the day progressed got crankier and crankier. We have kids of our own so it wasn't like we hadn't experienced that before but when you're on an adult only vacation really you want to be surrounded by adults. Not sure what it's like at Tulum but I found Chichen Itza overly crowded with people trying to sell stuff,as we walked among the ruins we passed what amounted to me a flea market. Not how I imagined things, but the Cenote we stopped at was something to see. I was wondering what the big deal was when we first got there I thought big deal it's a hole in the ground it wasn't until we went into the cave did I stop and go wow that's totally f@&*ing amazing
We had 2 couples with us and if I remember right it was around $200 per couple. It was more expensive then jumping on the big tour bus but all the extra attention and the extra stops in the small villages was WAY with it. Any other trips that we do will be done through USA Travel.
Been to Tulum....I'm glad we went and spent some time there. Thought it was interesting and pretty at the ruins. I believe there is no reason to do it a 2nd time. It didnt feel like the whole day was wasted getting there so I would recommend the tour. Not overly crowded when we was there. Cant help you with the Chichen Itza
