Mrs RNS is not a morning person, and since the snorkeling is fairly sparse off Temptation’s beach, I took a kayak out a couple times. These are free for guests & they have single and tandem sit-on-top kayaks, very stable even for beginners. (They require you to take a life jacket but not to wear it.) They are available at 9:30 and I was told they close at 4pm. I figured I wouldn’t see much, but I found out that an entrance to Nichupte Lagoon was only about 500 yards east of the resort (to the right if you’re standing on the beach looking toward the Caribbean). You paddle under a bridge by Barcelo and the pirate ships & you are in the mangroves. There are a lot of channels through the mangroves and the paddling is easy. There’s a current that runs from the lagoon to the Caribbean but it’s not hard to fight & the boat traffic was pretty light. I don’t think it would be easy to get lost since there’s a high tower by the bridge that works for a landmark. I looked after we got back & it looks like the mangroves end about 1000 yds in and the lagoon opens up. The water wasn’t real clear but closer to the mangroves I saw a lot of fish. It was much cleaner than I would have expected it to be—pristine compared to some of the portages I’ve seen in the BWCAW. Don’t forget to bring water, the sun gets pretty hot.
Hey Bryan have seen morelete crocs on Nichupte lagoon waters .not real agressive and def. wouldn't mess with U !ha ha
one day i will jump in a kyak while we are away. This is trip number 7 and every year i say we are gonna go out , but for some reason the bar open and the idea goes away real quickly.Thanks for the info....i guess i will keep dreaming.
I tried to add some pics on here but I don't know why they won't show up. If you go to bing.com, go to maps and enter Temptation Cancun. Zoom in to the top of the "7" on the hotel zone and you can see where the bridge is. Temptation should be marked by a pin. The pins are in the wrong place until you zoom in.
