I rented a car from Blue Way, in Cancun, recently. The experience was unsettling and perhaps the worst I've had with car rentals- car was worn, and needed a tuneup- yet, when I read what's been said by others on various forums about their experiences with car rentals here, I may have gotten off light. Now, I find I need to rent a car again, and I'm wondering about others' experiences with car rentals in Cancun. Perhaps there is an agency that is better than others, but forum posts suggest they all have issues with after the fact damage claims, somewhat misleading pricing in their websites, and pressure to pay extra for insurance of various kinds (which my contract clearly said may not actually exist, since they reserved the right to "self-insure", making the whole thing an illusion, at a price!)
V, I have used Executive over the years but not in a while, at the downtown office. The advantage of NOT renting an the airport location is that the airport related taxes add about 12% to the cost, compared to downtown. That said, I think they moved across the street from their former location on Yaxchilan, near Cruz Roja. www.executive.com.mx. I used to rent the cheapest possible car and then ask for a free upgrade when I went to pick it up. None of my former contacts work there any more however. It is worth checking them out. The only other thing to consider is that they only accept credit cards and they charge you in pesos, at an unfavorable rate, that effectively adds 10% when it hits your credit card account. I just factored this in to my rental decision, knowing that I was getting ripped off. But the cars and service were good +. Caveat emptor.
I Always use Europcar............always new cars and top notch service.....from hotel lobbies and their airport office.
