So the Senate voted today to not put through the "windfall profits" legislation, by a narrow margin. Personally, I did not agree with this bill in the first place- the oil companies by and large do NOT control the price of gas at the pump; and being a small business owner, I do not want the government usurping control over a free market enterprise: it's called socialism, and it has been tried- and failed- on more than 1 occasion. What really bothers me though is this: we have 2 Senators (3 if you count Hillary, because she did the same) that did NOT EVEN VOTE on this legislation, presumably because it would sway potential voters for the upcoming Presidential election- John McCain, and Barack Obama. These people are elected by us- are supposed to work for us- and this happens all too frequently- they abstain from voting on important issues, because they don't want to "play their hand". I am disgusted by this- and every tax paying citizen of the USA should be as well. We should get rid of ALL of them, Republican and Democrat alike.
...well that's the same motive I'd say for the so-called stimulus deal all the taxpayers got this year. It's an election year...who'd vote against it without jeopardizing their candidacy? F*ck politics and politicians.
