    Hi,

My name is Natalija, I am new to the forum and I am arriving to Cancun next week:D

I was wondering where can I eat good Mexican food for a decent price-where locals eat, somewhere in the area of Ibis Hotel (SM 11).

I should arrive to the hotel around 8pm.
Is it safe to walk around there at that time?

Thank you in advance for your help and tips:)

    Natalija

I would not suggest a lady walking alone in most areas. The Ibis is not in a bad area but it is not brightly lit at night around there. One of my favorite restaurants is a few blocks north of the Ibis, on Acanceh - La Troje, but it is not Mexican. There is a great, not cheap, Argentinian steak house - Bandeneon, on Nichupte across the street from the mall, sort of behind the hotel.

Both of these places are easy walks but we rolled the clocks back last weekend so it is getting dark really early.

Probably a $25 (about $2 US) taxi each way is the best way to go.

The important question is "What kind of food (Mexican) do you think you would like?" Tacos, street meat, burritos, arrachera (my favorite cow) with or without margaritas?

Rest assured there are plenty of authentic places to eat Mexican food, where you would rarely see tourists, a few short minutes away by taxi.

    Good luck

Caldo de Cameron - Shrimp Soup

Had this for lunch today. Does this qualify for "where the locals eat Mexican food"? It was boiling hot and spicy hot with fresh chopped habanero peppers. The shrimp stock was bold and tasty. Flavor galore. Yummy.

A huge bowl of homemade guacamole made for a nice meal.

TJ: That looks a lot like my fav place on Portillo, 3 mins walking from the CFE office, close to Crucero. Cant remember the name, but it seems to be run by a lady/a couple of ladies. Tiny place, but cheap and oh so yummy. Might not even be the same place, hehe.
