Last year I went to Cancun - different resort - in early August and I booked hotel and airfare on January 1st 2011 :) (I got both air and hotel through Orbitz but this year I am smarter and at least for TTR it is cheaper for us to book hotel and air separately)

We are planning on going to TTR from 7/27-8/10. :aktion030:

I am looking to book rooms through kenwoodtravel or alpharooms (seems to be cheapest - unless someone knows of a cheaper site?) and will be booking air separately (what is a good website for airfare - we have no extra miles - we dont really fly and we live 2 hours away from Pittsburgh, Cleveland or Buffalo so those are our 3 airport choices).

When should I book? Is there a certain period during the year when the two sites mentioned above have sales for rooms or websites you know have sales for flying?? As a teacher my salary is not large so I am trying to get the best deal and save $$ - this is our 2nd vacation so I do not know much about flying and getting hotel deals.

    Thank you!!

    Timea

When I was shopping around, I booked my trip with bookit.com. They had the best rate. It's hit or miss though. Their price for TTR fluctuated from week to week. I booked 3 months before our date of arrival.

I've found Yapta.com to be useful for tracking flight prices, you can even set a notify threshold that will email you when flights or hotel rooms hit a price you want. And it will let you set up searches flying out of multiple airports.

You will almost always find filghts out of Pittsburgh cheaper than your other two airport options. You should also check out USA3000 they have direct flights from Pittsburgh to Cancun many days a week and are very competitive price wise. We have used them many times and always been pleased with the flights and their services.
